Not with Them for the Money: Dilly tries to explain to Gerry that she was never remotely interested in his ability to afford expensive gifts; all she wanted was for him to "look after [her]" (implying she wanted a father figure more than anything). Gerry doesn’t seem to be able to comprehend this. Cookie’s real name is Beauty. Her Dad is successful, but he’s quite a jerk. It is painful to witness, but not dark. Her mother, Dilly, is a young trophy wife, Dad’s third marriage. People often think Dilly and Beauty are sisters. All that, the first half of the book, culminates in a striking, 5-star chapter that takes place on Beauty’s birthday. The second half of the book changes tone - you’ll be happy for Beauty and her mother. In fact, Dilly grows as a person during the course of the story, which was an interesting bonus. Their mother/daughter relationship is fascinating, actually, because Beauty is brainier than her mother. Because you have a lot more world experience everything might seem a little dark, I can imagine it would for me if I was to re-read them all now. But as a child, you don't notice it. The Missus and the Ex: Gerry's first wife Avril gets along very well with his current wife Dilly and is also fond of Beauty. This is partly because Avril believes Dilly took Gerry away from his second wife Ashleigh, whom Avril despises and gets into arguments with whenever they're together (it's implied that Gerry may have cheated on Avril with Ashleigh, so Avril feels Gerry leaving her for Dilly was Laser-Guided Karma). Try not to worry too much about it, but just answer any questions she might have as basically as possible to avoid her getting upset.

Buried Alive!. Penguin Books. 5 March 2009. Archived from the original on 17 January 2021 . Retrieved 20 April 2020. Imaginary Friend: Played with. Beauty idolises Sam, the main character in her favourite TV series Sam and Lily in the Rabbit Hutch and sometimes imagines having conversations with him, though technically, he is a real person. In the end, Beauty finally gets to meet Sam in person. The girls in love trilogy are definitely for a slightly older audience so if you do buy anymore, don't buy these until she's around 13/14. As well as winning many awards for her books, including the Children’s Book of the Year, Jacqueline is a former Children’s Laureate, and in 2008 she was appointed a Dame.Mum Looks Like a Sister: Dilly, who became a wife and a mother at a young age, is sometimes mistaken for Beauty's older sister due to her looks. Self-Made Man: Gerry was this. He tends to use his "hard work" as an excuse to treat his wife and daughter like crap and accuse them of being "ungrateful" if they do something he doesn't like. In the end Dilly is on her way to becoming a Self-Made Woman, starting up her own cookie baking business.

Namun, segalanya berubah ketika hadiah terbaik Beauty dari sahabat terbaiknya, Rhona, tertimpa tragedi akibat perlakuan Mr. Cookson.Embarrassing Middle Name: Beauty's middle name is Mercedes (her father’s car) and she is teased mercilessly, with Skye saying should be called ‘ Ugly Skoda’.

Aku benci dia. Aku tidak tahan menjadi jelek. Dia ayahku, dia seharusnya suka aku apa adanya. ... " ~ h. 116 Sentimental Homemade Toy: Beauty's favorite toy is a ragdoll handmade by her mother, which she calls PJ, short for Plain Jane. She looks a little lopsided, but Beauty loves her anyway and finds her comforting. The books revolve around a childrens care home and the stories of the children in that home. They do have dark stories, no one ends up in a care home without accumulating a dark story. None of this is hidden. That said, none of it is graphic! It's not going to mentally scar your child. It's a good series and I've yet to meet a kid that has taken anything negative from it, in fact it's taught a great many children that you shouldn't judge anothers circumstances because bad things could have happened. It's an introduction to the world that your child is very shortly going to be living in. Ask Tracy Beaker and Friends. Penguin Books. 27 February 2014. Archived from the original on 14 August 2020 . Flood, Allison (4 April 2020). "Jacqueline Wilson reveals publicly that she is gay". The Guardian. Archived from the original on 20 April 2020 . Retrieved 20 April 2020. When Beauty ends up on her favourite television show things couldn't have been better. But what will her dad make of it all?

Big Fancy House: The Cooksons' house. They live in a custom-built, six-bedroom house, with three bathrooms and a hot-tub. Beauty even has her own en-suite with taps shaped like dolphins. Gerry, of course, constantly shows it off to everyone who sets foot in it. This is the third Jacqueline Wilson book I’ve read aloud to my daughter. Though I enjoyed the other two more ( The Butterfly Club and Little Stars), this one had the same superb writing. Something about Wilson’s style makes reading aloud her prose very easy. I guess it’s voice. Her smooth sentences create clear images that convey simply her characters’ view. Those views are often poignant and fun. Benevolent Boss: Mike proves to be one to Dilly, being friendly, encouraging and not getting mad even if she messes something up. I can honestly say I read the books, possibly asked a few questions but was quite happy with the basic answer I got from my mum and never gave it much thought again.
