About this deal

This is the third book in the series and I quite enjoyed what the author did with this book. It kinda felt like she wrapped up the trilogy. The first book had a loose end, the second book had a few loose ends and this book is working through those loose ends carefully and wraps them up very nicely. Of course, it's all not very surprising. And if you start this book thinking it's a whodunnit you will end up disappointed, but as a boarding school adventure it works perfectly fine. I also like how in this book the differences between the twins become a little clearer, partly because other characters decide to abuse those differences. Although their thought and speaking pattern is still very much the same, and therefore I couldn't always remember who's point of view I was reading, I like how Scarlet and Ivy are two different people in this book, making different choices and having a different influence on other people and each other. When Scarlet and Ivy return to school after the holidays, trouble is afoot and the very existence of Rookwood is threatened. I LOVED this book, and unusual for me as l prefer romantic novels, will most definitely be reading the rest in the series.

There’s a new girl at Rookwood. Ebony claims to be a witch and soon seems to have most of the students (and the teachers) under her spell. Scarlet and Ivy don’t believe in witchcraft but something weird is definitely going on, and it’s down to them to figure out what before their best friend gets dragged down with it all. It’s summer and as a special treat after the horrors of last term Mrs Knight announces a school trip to Shady Pines Hotel on the shores of Lake Seren. Scarlet and Ivy are thrilled to get away from Rookwood for a break! Different covers were made for the UK releases due to people mistaking Scarlet and Ivy as a fantasy series rather than a mystery one. [2]Set in the 1930s at Rookwood School - a creepy boarding school with plenty of dark secrets - the books follow twin sisters, troublesome Scarlet and quiet Ivy, as they investigate the disturbing mysteries that lurk behind closed doors. So, the story itself was intriguing. Then you couple it with Ivy. She’s one of those characters you can’t help but love, torn between her own shy self and needing to act the part of her brash sister made for some interesting character moments. I think my absolute favourite was a snap, very bad, decision Ivy makes that she can barely tell whether it is her own or her acting going too far. The girls around her make up a good cast as well, even the girls giving her a hard time are never truly bad, everything is shown evenly and the friend Ivy finds is just so cute I want to bundle her away. Newly veiled threats, a cryptic letter and secrets to uncover - Rookwood is in real danger this time... I loved this book. It was so creepy but cool at the same time, with a lot of unexpected plots- which you can never guess! I was pleased to find that the twins meet their aunt, Aunt Sara. They find out the truth about their mother as well.

Locals say that at night the troubled souls buried in the ancient flooded graveyard no longer rest in peace... It’s a brand-new term for Scarlet and Ivy, and the girls are intrigued by a fascinating new girl, Ebony. She’s as enchanting as she is mysterious, and she’s began to gather quite the following – in fact, most of the younger girls appear to be under her spell.Scarlet, Ivy, and their friends get to go on a week-long residential trip to a countryside hotel by the edge of a reservoir, but Rookwood’s mysteries are determined to follow them. The legends surrounding the town drowned beneath the reservoir seem to be coming true, and is there more to one of their friends than she is letting on? When the girls get the chance to audition for a theatre show of ballet Sleeping Beauty, the girls are excited but Scarlet more so as she wants the main role of Aurora so starts getting secret lessons after class with Miss Finch to improve. So when her teacher disappears mysteriously, a new teacher, Madame Zelda, shows up randomly and something seems off, just where is Miss Finch? When troublesome Scarlet mysteriously disappears from Rookwood School, terrifying Miss Fox invites her quiet twin sister Ivy to ‘take her place’. If you've been following me for any length of time, you'll know that one of the biggest points in any book for me is character development. In MG fiction, that's even more important. A character needs to grow, to change, and to find themselves in situations that cause them to step outside the box. Cleverly has that down pat. Ivy's character was brilliant. Quiet, meek Ivy learned so much about herself while posing as her much more outgoing sister, Scarlet. I loved watching her come out of her shell, and face down the danger. All for the love of her sibling. But rumours swirl like ghosts around Ebony, and not all of them are nice. And when a prank on All Hallow's Eve goes horribly wrong, it's Ebony who gets the blame. Ivy and Scarlet aren't so sure. There might be more to Ebony than meets the eye, but surely she's not dangerous? But if it's not Ebony, then who or what is to blame?

I RELISHED this adventure sooo much. Ariadne was really very timid at first but got bold by the end of the book❤️

Interview With the Author

GM: Were there any other characters you especially enjoyed writing? If so, what was it about them that inspired you? The idea for Scarlet and Ivy came to Cleverly during a writing exercise at university. She’d been asked to imagine a character returning to a room they hadn’t been in for a long time when she’d visualised two beds, one girl and the remnants of a diary. Inspired by films, music, video games and her favourite authors, including Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, Cleverly’s Scarlet and Ivy series weaves classic themes of family, friendship and adversity into each mysterious tale. I still can’t believe what happened in the end😨🥶 The end literally gave me goosebumps!!! The end….no…the whole book, was gripping😁 I loved this book even more than the last two ones!!!

Well……the new ballet teacher was really creepy and exasperating😭 but towards the last of the book….she became a sweetheart too😂 Evetttt, karşınızda bu senenin okuduğum en heyecanlı, güzel, gizemli ve maceralı kitabı karşınızda! Bir solukta okudum. Sözü fazla uzatmadan özetime geçiyorum. Ha bu arada bu serini 6 kitap (Kayıp İkiz, Duvardaki Fısıltılar, Karanlıktaki Dans, Gölün Altındaki Işıklar, Mum Işığında Lanet ve Son Sır) olduğunu unutmayın!Ahhhh! This was such a BRILLANT book💕 The story was gripping and there were many twists throughout the book❤️ It is a mystery middle grade and I relished reading it!!!❤️ It was super fast paced!!! But the old hotel and the waters of the lake reservoir are covering up dark secrets. And when mysterious things start happening to hotel guests it seems that a malicious new threat is haunting the girls. There's also the case now that she's here, horses are being set free and girls getting pushed out of Windows, fights, letters and more strange dreams and behaviour, just what is happening next at this school? GM: Finally, my nine-year-old son would like to ask what made you choose to add in the character of Rose in The Whispers in the Walls?
