Description

Pick one or two strawberries that fit inside a heart or plain round small lolly mould, then hull and slice them into thin cross sections. We bought these just before my daughter was ready to wean as it was a madly hot summer and I had been advised to freeze breast milk in the lolly to help combat the heat. Simply lay each 95ml-capacity silicone mould (with integrated stick) flat, then fill with a lolly recipe of your choice and freeze. When selecting your ice lolly moulds, obviously the fun factor is paramount, but we’d recommend checking the size of the mould against your freezer.

Best ice lolly moulds for 2023 | BBC Good Food

Ease of eating: Although spills will never be entirely avoided, we looked for moulds with spill guards and sturdy handles that were suitable for small hands. The fact one can be taken out alone means it’s easy to remove your frozen creation using hot water, too. We spent three weeks testing ice lolly moulds every day – at one point we considered setting up a free ice lolly stand on our front doorstep. Soft fruits, cream and condensed milk are whizzed together and layered up to create a vibrant dessert.Releasing the ice lollies is a delicate process, and more than once our feet had a few toes amputated in the process.

Nuby Fruitsicles – Frozen Puree Moulds with Easy Grip Handles

Designed with weaning babies in mind, these cute little ice pops are easy to grip and provide a smaller portion size, and we can confirm they were popular with older kids, too. While the ice lollies in the tray takes up quite a bit of space in the freezer – and they are tall too – once frozen you can pop out each ice lolly individually from the tray, and this means you can jam them in much smaller spaces in your freezer.

These six colourful pops make the perfect-size ice lolly for kids, who apparently loved the idea of eating an umbrella. There’s no mention of where to get the correct-size lolly sticks when the 16 have been used, and the block and moulds are handwash only. Moulds are easy to fill, and the lollies are easy to remove, with clear plastic that helps you see when they’re ready to be released. Having the moulds in the stand makes them easy to fill and has the advantage of having an individual lolly, two, three or four to run under the tap if you want, and the rest can stay safely tucked up in the freezer. Summer berries, bananas, apples, oranges, kiwis, mangoes, peaches, cherries and pineapple all freeze well.

The simple BPA-free, silicone mould feels sturdy and pliable, which makes releasing the finished lollies easy. Because they create popsicles that are shaped more like Calippos, rather than your traditional lolly-on-a-stick, these are better suited for older children and not babies or young toddlers (in fact, Sunnylife says they’re ideal for children aged 12 and over, although we’re sure that kids under that age will love them, too). Moulds that came in boxes suitable for storage, could be stacked or individually removed, or fit into an icebox got bonus points. Designed to hold and freeze 30ml portions of breast milk or purée to soothe teething gums in warmer weather, it can also be filled with yogurt or juice for older children. It's a good idea to leave a small gap at the top of the mould as the lollies will expand during the freezing process. Lastly, inside the box are some recipe cards that had easy but interesting flavour suggestions on it, which took our lollies to the next level.
