Description

Acclaimed author Robert Ross has interviewed Marty's friends and family, including his sister Pamela, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Michael Palin and Terry Jones, and also draws from extensive, previously unpublished and often hilarious interviews with Marty himself, taped in preparation for the autobiography he never wrote. Marty Feldman è un attore che chiunque appartenga alla mia generazione avrà visto almeno una volta, tipicamente in quel capolavoro comico che è Frankenstein Jr.

A particularly good autobiography, I think largely because it was an early draft, finished days before the author's death.Il libro si rileva ricchissimo di aneddoti e riferimenti ad interviste di chi l'ha conosciuto e frequentato e un'occasione per ricordare questo ottimo attore, regista e sceneggiatore scomparso troppo presto, a soli 48 anni. Hilarious, deeply charming, aphoristic, ironic, charged throughout with lust for life and filled with scenes of great vanished eras and and portraits of other performers and friends, eYE Marty is the amazing discovery of the story of a man who was at the heart of the British comedy revolution. And the inconsistencies like petty crime was in Marty's blood and yet he wasn't cut out to be villain; they don't make sense to me. He was an architect of British comedy, paving the way for Monty Python, and then became a major Hollywood star, forever remembered as Igor in Mel Brooks' Young Frankenstein.

Born in London's East End in 1934, the grandchild of emigrants from Eastern Europe, his descriptions of his traditional and penurious Jewish background, miscreant behaviour at school and the regular beatings by antisemitic schoolboys are the most moving.Feldman created a number of immensely successful and influential shows such as Marty , The Frost Report and sketches for Monty Python. A spokesman said: ‘The book is exactly as Feldman wrote it, his great friend Mark Flanagan, had it transcribed, with even the photos inserted where Feldman had noted where they should go. Nevertheless, he generally did not seriously discuss politics in public, and once stated: "I feel it would be presumptuous for me to make any statements about American politics because I’m a guest here. Feldman suffered from thyroid disease and developed Graves' ophthalmopathy, causing his eyes to protrude and become misaligned. One has to acknowledge flaws, recognise that not everything the subject did had merit, be ready to challenge those set in stone stories the subject told about their life.
