Description

A physiological vaginal environment is maintained by the natural balance of microorganisms known as vaginal Aora. Lactobacilli make up the majority of vaginal flora, therefore providing a natural defence against vaginal infections such as thrush. Balance pH of the vagina, to support the good bacteria (what Balance Activ aims to do - but there are some home remedies like apple cider vinegar in your bath water - there's lots of info online if you Google. I'm avoiding adding links here because they don't always make it past the moderators) One of the ways lactobacilli do this is by creating a protective barrier over the vaginal walls, halping prevent the growth of harmful microorganisms that can cause vaginal infections. If you're prone to getting BV, it's also important to change things that increase your risk of developing it. Things that are helpful include:

Use water, or water with a mild, non-perfumed soap, to wash your vulva. Limit this to once a day - washing the vulva and vagina too much can irritate them.

Many women mistake BV for thrush, they do not have similar symptoms and causes are different. The six main signs of thrush are itching, burning, a white, cottage-cheese like discharge, redness, swelling and soreness. Typically, BV should not cause pain, while thrush may do. Metronidazole tablets or capsules taken by mouth are a good treatment. They are usually taken twice a day for 5 to 7 days. They can also be taken as a one-off dose, although this is less effective than the longer course.

Bacterial vaginosis symptoms can be treated at home with an internal gel, which work by helping to regulate the pH balance of your vagina. I came across the new product to me at least and of course I thought its just another reincarnated med to make more money for pharmaceuticals only it gave me a new lease of life. Intently listened and watched to the Doctor on a short clip advising on this product , went ahead and bought it and started using it for the next 7 days and OMG ! What a difference this gel made less occurrence of the fishy smell by a large degree, no more itching , I have not spent any more money on vaginal hygiene products nor used up annual leave days and days off to get the same treatment ( that didn't work for me ) of countless no.s of antibiotics.

But if you Google the name like I did - you'll get links to videos on youtube with Dr Chris Steele (from This Morning) endorsing it, as well as that lady doctor who does the 'Embarassing Illnesses' TV prog on Channel4. There are a few other treatments that have been suggested for BV, although the evidence is more limited than for antibiotics. There's definitely less discharge, but it hasn't gone altogether. Because the BA gel is watery and I use it at night, the next morning I have some liquid on my pants, but as the day goes on, there's a lot less discharge than there usually is for me.

It sounds very very promising. I'm starting the treatment tonight and will post on here in the next few days with an update. Canesbalance® is safe to use during pregnancy, however, you should consult your doctor if you think you may have a vaginal infection during pregnancy.Clinical trials have shown that Canesbalance Vaginal Gel's formulation is well tolerated and effective. It provides a triple benefit as it effectively relieves unpleasant odour and abnormal discharge, restricts the growth of bad bacteria and supports good bacteria (Lactobacillus) to restore the natural environment. For more info google BV can't attach any links either , what surprises me is that over at least 3 years none of the GP's thought that it could have been BV , it could only have been thrush treated with antibiotics ??

Yoghurt contains good bacteria ( Lactobacillus). Applying yoghurt directly to the vagina has been used as a treatment for BV for a long time. Some studies have also found that eating yoghurt regularly might reduce the risk of BV. However, there isn't enough good scientific evidence to show that eating or applying yoghurt to the vagina works for BV.

How to reduce the risk of getting BV

While you might have heard a lot of people talking about thrush, bacterial vaginosis is actually the most common cause of abnormal vaginal discharge among women of reproductive age. If you are a woman and between 15 and 45 years of age, you are in the group that’s most at risk of bacterial vaginosis (or BV in short). BV is the most common cause of vaginal infections, and fortunately can be easily treated. Clinical trials have shown that Canesbalance® Vaginal Gel's formulation is well tolerated and effective. It provides a triple benefit as it effectively relieves unpleasant odour and abnormal discharge, restricts the growth of bad bacteria and supports good bacteria (Lactobacillus) to restore the natural environment. Okay, last night was my 4th application of Balance Activ, and I'm noticing a slight improvement in my symptoms so far (I don't get the irritation some women get with BV, but I do have a thin watery discharge with an unpleasant odour).
