Description

This Classic Drop Spreader manufactured by Scotts ® popular with both the discerning home owner and contractor. The 22” swath and 25 kg large hopper is a time saver combined with its superior accuracy it also eliminates the risk of spreading fertiliser or grass seed onto unwanted areas such as patios and boarders delivering consistent greening and complete coverage time and time again.

There are also directions given for using the best spread rate settings with various types of EverGreen granular products too.

You can reduce or raise the settings if your product remains in the spreader or runs out before covering the marked area. So test test I have taken into consideration a few important elements. How much material can be held, how well the spreader distributes seed and fertiliser, price, durability, and hopper capacity. I start with grass seed on a lawn that was hand seeded and ended up patchy – without question, when factoring the method I have used to test these lawn spreaders, for a little garden like mine, EverGreen Easy Spreader Plus came out on top – even a child could successfully spread seed with this spreader it was that easy. And setup was a doddle too. Here’s a couple of pictures of the spreader in use: My daughter helping me test the lawn spreaders

These kinds of spreaders will automatically throw out and granular feed as you push the tool along across your lawn, and will increase the width of this the faster you walk. At an average pace, the spreading width is around 150-180cm, but it can be as much as 340cm with a little effort. The Greenkey deluxe seed and fertiliser spreader is certainly easy to use, with minimal controls and no tedious assembly required. In fact, the only controls you have to deal with are the four aperture settings which are selected using the switch on the handle with your thumb, and the crank handle on the side to operate the spreading mechanism. People tend to go for these kinds of spreaders because they are low cost, easy to use and there is less chance of accidentally putting too much fertiliser down and killing off parts of your lawn. The advantage of a drop spreader is that you have much more control over where the contents are being put down, and this makes them better for using on the edges of lawns or near garden ponds so you don’t contaminate the water accidentally with chemicals. A hopper that’s too small will need frequent refilling so the job will take you a lot longer. If the capacity is too large, you’ll be pushing unnecessary excess weight.

8. Best Tow-Behind Spreader—Buyers Products ATV Tow-Behind Broadcast Spreader

Because of its small size, it can’t hold large quantities of fertiliser so even a full tank would only add about another 1.6 kilograms to the weight you need to carry, and even young kids could handle that easily. First, you have to close the hopper of the Scotts drop spreader and it is the component that carries the seeds or products. Throughout our tests this model didn’t get jammed a single time, I think due to the hole where the feed goes through onto the spinning component as it is larger than what you sometimes see with these kinds of products. Unlike our other Scotts product review, this one is a drop spreader and works in a slightly different way. Where a rotary spreader will use a turntable to throw the fertiliser, weed killer, etc. out in multiple directions, a drop spreader distributes the contents of the hopper straight down. Rotary/broadcast spreaders can be either handheld, or have wheels and need to be pushed manually. Handheld spreaders are better suited to a small garden.

Have a wide arc spread pattern. They use a spinning disk or plate to fling the granules in a wide arc, covering a larger area with each pass. This allows for efficient coverage over large areas such as expansive lawns or fields. A rotary lawn spreader, sometimes referred to as a ‘broadcast spreader’, works by flinging fertiliser/grass seed out as its rotator spins. A rotary lawn seed spreader will allow you to cover more area in less time, quite desirable if you have a larger lawn. Here’s a brief overview of the conversion rate for different Scott spreader models: Scotts Drop Spreader Settings Chart Item Have a narrow and targeted spread pattern. They release the granules directly beneath the spreader through evenly spaced drop holes or slots. This results in a precise and controlled application, suitable for spot treatments, narrow strips, or areas that require controlled distribution.Answer: To spread seeds using Scotts EdgeGuard, go through the Scotts spreader settings conversion rate. Then, set the correct number on the rate control dial and put seeds in the spreader. Finally, start spreading the seeds. Final Verdict

The absence of information is indicated by a (-) symbol. The labeled settings are only a rough estimate and should be used as a reference point. Various factors can impact the rate of product delivery, including operator walking speed, the maintenance history of the spreader, and weather conditions, among others. Scotts Spreader Settings Conversion ChartThe main thing to watch out for are corners – it can be easy to accidentally distribute too much product. The drop spreader is not easy to ‘turn off’ at a corner because the aperture only closes when the yellow indicator is pointing to ‘0’. This is difficult to change whilst in the middle of distributing product. Whilst rotary spreaders can be prone to flinging grass seed everywhere, including into flowerbeds, this EverGreen Easy Spreader Plus is a drop spreader that only dispenses seed, or fertiliser, under the unit as you walk (so you won’t find yourself pulling unwanted grass shoots out of the flowerbed a week later!). It’s important to adjust the spreader setting for each product based on its unique characteristics. Answer: Scotts set their compatible setting number for various purposes. In case you are spreading seeds for the first time in a new lawn, the setting should be set to 15. As for spreading seeds in an old lawn, setting 5 works better. Why are the Numbers Put on Scotts Spreader Settings? If you want to use the Rye Grass Mix with a rotary spreader, choose a set of 6¼. But if you prefer drop spreaders, choose 9½ for overseeding or 15 for bare lawns. Tips for Caring for the Scotts Seed Spreaders
