Description

Utilizing a build volume of 220x220x250mm and a heated build platform, the Aquila X2 is a direct clone of the Creality Ender 3 series of printers and has many of the same hardware features. Additionally, it is compatible with various filaments including PLA, ABS, and PETG, giving you the flexibility to explore different materials and achieve the desired results. Unfortunately, the tip of the rifle snapped off at the slightest touch, and showed that the inside of the print wasn’t fully laminated, and the material had extruded unevenly.

The build platform on the Voxelab Aquila X2 is a sheet of Carborundum glass with a textured surface on one side and smooth glass on the other. One thing to keep in mind when using the printer is that the power supply does produce some noise, which is noticeable when the Aquila is heating up. Because the model is printed in multiple individual bodies, the Flexy Rex also doubles as a test of bed adhesion, as some of the smaller bodies are prone to popping off a poorly calibrated bed. This will add manual mesh bed leveling to your printer which is an excelent Voxelab Aquila upgrade if you notice that your bed is not perfectly flat and could benefit from a bit of adjustment.

If the Voxelab Aquila 3D printer doesn’t sound like it’s going to meet your needs, there are plenty of options available on the market. gcode file in a text editor, it appears the file was generated back in September, 2020 using ‘ffslicer 1.

I was trying to go with what you recommended in the underlying article where you said “I got the Set 2 copper version which has a copper heatsink with plated copper heatblock (with silicon sock) and nozzle. The spool holder resides at the top of the Aquila printer, which makes the filament path a little challenging. I’m not a fan of this style of build platform because it has no flex to it, which means you have to wait until the bed has fully cooled before removing the part and the shiny surface attracts fingerprints, dust, and other small defects very quickly. Unfortunately, just like the FlashForge Adventurer 4, Voxelab has only included a single ‘Standard’ profile with the Aquila X2. If you decide to install a magnetic PEI print surface, then I recommend getting the Energetic PEI Sprint Steel Sheet which is probably the best out there. In addition to the parts for the printer, the Aquila X2 includes a scraper, a microSD card and reader, a set of Allen keys, a small flathead screwdriver, and a small spool of sample material.

Featuring a hardware spec sheet nearly identical to dozens of other Creality Ender clones, the Voxelab Aquila X2 fell short of expectations and felt like a half-hearted attempt at an entry-level 3D printer. With its replaceable build plate, you can easily remove completed prints and start on your next masterpiece without any hassle. As mentioned in the review, one of the first Voxelab Aquila upgrades I recommend is a better hotend. Using a shiny material (like this Prusa Silver PLA) tends to highlight defects, so the even layers are even more pronounced on this hook. When it’s heating up, the wattage bumps up to 240W, which then levels off to around 90W once the print job starts. Voxelab also advertises compatibility with the popular slicer app Cura, but doesn’t include a profile with the printer. If you need a large printing area, don’t worry, Creality also has a CR 10 option, which is another popular do-it-yourself 3D printer on the market.
