Such statement prior to the MeToo movement might have slid off easier than it would be if said now, at a time where female presence and representation is a constant fight in all dimesions within collective and individual contexts. It” without an exception discusses personal memories and experience which is both the advantage and the disadvantage of the book. Also, half of the book is dedicated to her 'style icons', despite telling us she isn't that into style (clearly a lie). I met a girl who told me that an acupuncturist told her that if this happens you have a broken heart. What you get are poorly written excerpts of word vomit by Alexa Chung that don't give you any insight into her life/ her style/ or anything of interest AND on top of that some shitty hipster pictures (in all honesty my personal tumblr has better inspo pics).

There’s also talk of first favorites— varying from clothes to anthems to movies… and, of course, featuring gorgeous pictures and illustrations. I'd recommend this to Chung fans who are curious about what kind of movies/celebrities/fashion she likes, though I'd recommend going into it not expecting too much. Alexa Chung's new book »IT« delivers exactly what you’d expect from a rose-colored, high-quality linen cover: A wealth of inspiration, beauty advice, and personal snapshots. It is truly valuable utilising text and image as a mechanism to convey meaning and create a piece of work that can be in service of others. Fellow followers of her Twitter and Instagram feeds will know that she’s witty and charmingly self-deprecating.But again it doesn’t seem that deep, more than anything she’s just being “I’m not like other girls”. I'm really, really unhappy" the first thing that came up was: "Go to the Caribbean and get wasted with your really cool friends for three weeks. I thought going into this that it was going to sound semi-pretentious, but I - for the most part - really liked Alexa Chung’s writing voice. Alexa, if you're reading this, contact me and I will send you an old eyeliner and an Instax Mini photo of a man's legs.

Isn't it strange how my hair always looks best the night before I have a hair appointment booked for the following day? Instead, she candidly mentions (as a side note in parenthesis) that her modeling card would hold her name alongside her Polaroid “Minus the “Chung” part so that clients could project whatever nationality they wanted onto my face”. I covet her entire wardrobe, a seemingly effortless mash-up of tomboy (denim shorts, Converse), classic (Breton stripes, Barbour jackets, cardigans), girly (pretty dresses) and rock star groupie (leather jackets, leopard print coats). The aesthetic quality of the book is obviously important and would be to a fashionista like Miss Chung. It is a combination of irreverent commentary, fashion advice, photography and illustrations, mixed with autobiographical anecdotes.

There's no rhyme or reason to the arrangement of the paragraphs or quotes or photos beyond an overall aesthetic. Not quite a style guide, and not quite a coffee table tome, the book will be a collection of the presenter's inspirations and musings - featuring her favourite photographs and drawings. The oddest section is one on heartbreak - I'm surprised she wrote about her own heartbreak with such honesty, and then allowed it to be published. Alexa Chung is a television personality and international style icon, and the co-host of the new daily music television program Fuse News .

With influences that range from the sultry beauty of Jane Birkin to the rocker chic of Mick Jagger, it's no wonder that everything worn by Alexa Chung instantly becomes the latest trend. One thing about her that is so refreshing is that she never hesitates to downplay her accomplishments and fame. Sometimes I wish I could live like a man and fit everything I need into a single back pocket but that’s never going to happen and besides, then I would lose out on the daily drama that occurs when I think I’ve lost something and have to tip the contents of my bag out only to discover my phone is in my hand. That is why it is somewhat iconic that Chung created such a timely text that brought something new to the table at the time: it spoke to the present, the past and the future. IT made me wonder about myself; reading Chung invited introspection that enabled me to converse with Chung´s notes, and my very own. Her apparently flawless fashion sense has made her a favorite of designers on both sides of the Atlantic and her "What I'm Wearing Today" photo blog has become a designated stop for her growing army of admirers. Once when I was heartbroken a male friend of mine sent me his navy cashmere jumper to wear as a perpetual hug to cheer me up. For a start, there's nothing "Last Year" about it - it's so unbelievably now, it's hard to believe the ink has even had chance to dry properly.

However, all these extended quotes are also very personal insights into the girl: for example when Alexa tells how her love for horses influenced her style (»That silhouette of skinny trousers, ankle boots and an oversized sweatshirt is one I never managed to get away from. I found, as I was reading it, more to be like a small art-project which people are interested in not because of its one-of-a-kindness but because it contains the soul of someone famous which, to be honest, everyone is eager to peek into. Oooooo I had been eyeing this book up all over Christmas, every time I went into Urban Outfitters there it was, that eye staring me in the face! It took me about an hour to read and I sent it back straight away because I felt like I'd been robbed.

She said so herself that this book was more of a side project in which she would babble about nothing in particular - a journal of sorts.
