Description

Tawny port – The name refers to the colour the wine turns after ageing. To have this label, they must be at least two years old, but you’ll also find much older examples, such as our winning 10-year-old (below). The age statement means the liquid is a blend of vintages with an average barrel ageing. Flavours here tend to be nuttier, and can include caramel, cinnamon and chocolate. Bottle should be in the upright position, at a constant temperature and away from intense direct light. After opening, consume preferably in 6 to 8 weeks. To be served at a temperature between 14º C to 16º C. Full Ruby, with violet nuances. Perfumed, very fruited and complex aroma. Full-bodied, fruited, smooth, with sweet tannins and a long finish. White port – Best served cold, white port is delicious and refreshing with a splash of tonic, and makes a great alternative to your beloved G&T. Often drunk as an aperitif, we’d recommend serving it with a side of salted almonds.

Pronounced tawny color, with brownish nuances. Balanced aroma, delicate, elegant due to its aging in oak casks giving off a variety of aromas of caramel, vanilla, chocolate, honey and dried fruit. Velvety, delicate flavor, semi-sweet and long finish. From 1832 on, the Factory intensified its work and concentrated on perfecting porcelain, reaching a golden period that culminated late in the 19th century. The contribution from foreign artists such as Victor C. Rousseau was important, mainly for the creation of a painting school. There were very relevant facts during this period of Vista Alegre's history such as the development of a social work; the introduction of golden decorations, landscape motifs and delicate flowers; the involvement in contests (Paris, Palácio de Cristal in Porto) and, finally, in 1880, the end of glass production. It can be served with coffee or chocolates. It is very nice served with desserts like crème brulée or fruit pie, and also desserts made from chocolate, dried fruits and caramel. Serve fresh, as an aperitif with cheese, ham, smoked ham and dry fruits. Also indicated for desserts made from chocolate, cream, and pies made from red fruits and wild fruits.

To find the best port, the GHI’s panel of 10 WSET-trained experts and consumers tried 32 bottles – from white to ruby – from the leading supermarkets and big brands. Each was tasted blind to prevent brand bias, and they were looking for easy-drinking styles that would work well with a classic cheese board and desserts. Ruby port – These tend to be inexpensive, deep ruby-coloured, and often associated with the cheeseboard. Within this category, you’ll find your slightly more premium reserve ports, late bottled vintage port (otherwise known as LBV, these are aged for longer but still designed to be drunk young) and vintage ports. How we test port Rosé port – Just like rosé wine, here you can expect to find notes of strawberries and raspberries, alongside a caramel sweetness. Cheese, chocolate, fruity puddings and sorbet are all excellent pairings – serve ice cold for maximum enjoyment. Vista Alegre is a Portuguese porcelain manufacturer located in Ílhavo in the district of Aveiro, Portugal.

Traditional method of wine making of Port wine. After a partial stripe of the grapes, with light crushing, follows the fermentation with skin maceration. The fermentation occurs with temperature control, being stopped by adding brandy (firewater). All the process of vinification is controlled by the team of oenology, considering the kind of grapes, its level of maturation and the sweetness wanted. This wine is the result of blending a selection of red wines, ruby colour, matured in oak casks, with an average of 5 years. Bottle should be in the upright position, at a constant temperature and away from intense direct light. After opening, consume preferably in 3 to 4 weeks. Ready for consumption; do not need decantation. Should be served at a temperature between 14º to 16º C.
