About this deal

As the young pair grow ever closer, Charlie’s mother (Morton) becomes increasingly concerned for her sick boy and obsessive in her quest to shelter him from harm. There was some fine acting from the youngsters Charlie Tahan and especially Natasha Calis as the friend who puts everything on the line to rescue him. Clearly we all have different ideas of excellence, but writing as someone not knowing anything about this movie, prior to viewing, I have to agree it’s NOT A HORROR movie, but IT IS AN EXTRAORDINARY PSYCHOLOGICAL THRILLER, which from beginning to end traces a brilliantly well executed and acted entry into the world of a crazed mother/physician played so well by Morton. Still reeling from the loss of her parents, she takes it personally until one day when she is trapped in the house and she discovers the Young's terrible secret. Can't Come Out to Play (formerly known as The Harvest) is a chilling psychological thriller starring Natasha Calis ( The Possession) as Maryann, Charlie Tahan as Andy and Samantha Morton and Michael Shannon as Andy's parents Katherine and Richard Young.

A TV weatherman is recruited by government scientists to help contain powerful freak winds before they converge and destroy the planet. Can’t Come Out To Play explores ideas surrounding the role of the woman; with the two main female characters representing completely opposing ideologies. The psychopathy of Andys mother is so awful it’s hard to watch at times but the performance is truly commendable. I mean, c'mon, there's a section when they want you to be excited from watching a teenage version of Misery. It was gonna be dark, instead it came out overexposed, it was gonna be original but came out like 'twas a remake itself; I dunno who gave it 3 stars, leave alone 5 [! She makes a lot of stupid, irrational decisions, but we are reminded that she is only human and prone to mistakes. It is the first feature film he has directed in over a decade (his last being Speaking of Sex in 2001) and his first horror venture since Haeckel's Tale, a 2006 episode of the horror anthology series Masters of Horror.

He truly plays the role of a grieving father quite masterfully, so much to where you begin to feel his sadness and pain, it's simply brilliant. Reeling from the loss of her parents, the teenager Maryann ( Natasha Calis) moves in with her grandparents, and is grateful when she manages to befriend Andy ( Charlie Tahan), a boy who uses a wheelchair. For someone so young she is an utter badass, showing that young girls can be just as tough as their seniors. We never know how Kathleen’s going to act and her personality shifts more suddenly than the British weather. It is disclosed that the heart transplant, that is about to take place, is for the real Andy, Katherine and Richard's biological son. Her performance is understated and subtle, yet perfectly and entirely successfully at presenting the quiet evil that resides inside her character. I agree totally with other reviews who say that it is definitely a thriller but the suspense doesn't build steady enough which ruins it. Katherine's behavior grows even more volatile, while Maryann discovers that Jason was abducted from the hospital as a baby.

a little better however the young actors (Natasha Calis and Charlie Tahan) outshining all the adults, give excellent emotional wide eyed performances as two kids caught in the complexities of an adult phsycho-mess that is the relationship between Katherine (Morton) and Richard (Michael Shannon) and their response to having a sick child. Also another child actor who should really be congratulated, Nolan Lyons, who, although he doesn't have any lines, performs a very difficult part incredibly convincingly especially for one so young (I won't elaborate or it really would be a spoiler). That incident, introduces us to Katherine (played by Samantha Morton) who is caring for her sick invalid son, Andy (played by Charlie Tahan) alongside her husband (played by Michael Shannon). Katherine, who had caught up to Jason and Maryann, is informed via her pager that her son's ventilator has been unplugged, and runs back to the house.

Starring Michael Shannon (Man of Steel, The Iceman) and directed by John McNaughton (Wild Things), a mentally unstable physician (Samantha Morton) keeps her dying son completely secluded from the outside world in a bid to preserve what life he has left. Can't Come Out to Play is out on DVD and digital platforms from 22 June 2015, courtesy of Signature Entertainment. In her new neighbourhood, she befriends Andy (Charlie Tahan), the boy next door, whose parents keep him confined to their house due to his serious illness. It manages to find its stride at the half-way point, but up until then it does drag ever so slightly. The most terrifying aspect of the film comes from this harrowing performance by Samantha Morton, who plays the doting, loving and obsessive mother. Nevertheless, I definitely did not expect the twist towards the end of the film and had not guessed the true picture at all.
