About this deal

Oh, humans may create it, recognize and even admire it for a while, but in the end they always pervert and destroy it. This book gets at an essential that many of us have not taken the time to absorb - but that is evident in the background should we choose to make the effort to observe it - like the saying the democracy depends on a well informed electorate and Albert Einstein's quote: "peace cannot be kept by force; it can only be achieved by understanding.

i thought this was PRETTY GOOD it's such a nice idea, the one thing I'd say is maybe too much dialogue and most of the ideologies involved are very wordy, i wouldn't say the dialogue is written in such a way that normal people would actually speak, but i really liked the idea of it and it was a good length, just when i was starting to get bored because really not much happens in terms of plot, there is a storyline but the main point of this is the philosophy (or that's what i gathered) it reaches it's climax quickly. Huxley adopts a thoroughly Buddhist lens which he peppers throughout his characters' constant pontifications. It means that the importance of parenting is not weighed down by a single person (usually the woman) and depending on the circumstances, they can turn to the person who is most likely to help them. Both she and Huxley were upset that Island was treated as a work of science fiction and not taken seriously at the time. You read, you read, so charmed and challenged by the intellectual debate that somewhere along the road you completely forget to pay attention to the plot, to the characters and generally to all that makes the essence of a novel. Scholars of Aldous's works see his mother's death in his cynical attitude and his books including Brave New World and the utopian Island.

Apparently Old Man Huxley is overshadowed by his younger self and our rampant consumer society keeps his Brave New World evergreen, but Island remains as its counterpoint.

For over a hundred years the Pacific island of Pala has been the scene of a unique experiment in civilisation.
