Which still makes for a good story, it's just that the title and back cover synopsis is a bit misleading. I also like how some of the chapters are focused one the media portion of the case, and how crazy it was for the reporters.

I want to get across that we as women just can’t take this kind of thing anymore if something bad happens to our son. Finally, you will hear about Dahmer's trial, his jail house murder, and the impact that his many crimes had on Milwaukee. The style is reminiscent of a less frenetic Robert Crumb, coupled with the physicality of Don Martin‘s work for Mad.

Schwartz gives a blow by blow account of how she came to be the first reporter to break the Dahmer story and the subsequent events, including the shameful behavior of some reporters as they scrambled to interview Jeffrey's parents. He published this book in 1994, and I’m not quite sure if that occurred before or after Jeffrey was bludgeoned to death with a barbell by a fellow inmate.

All this wouldn't have stopped the book from being enjoyable if it wasn't so apologetic beyond belief towards the police. In addition to covering the case, the author raises several interesting and meaningful points about 1) how journalism and the media fit into the justice system, 2) the conflicts between the public’s right to know and the privacy needed in a criminal investigation, and 3) the role of homophobia and racism in cases like this and in law enforcement in general (she spends a lot of time discussing the black community’s reaction to the trial and concerns of police bias and makes a brief connection to the George Floyd murder also in Milwaukee - one which I wish she had explored further). En el libro se hace un recorrido por toda la investigación periodística sobre Jeffrey, desde su infancia, su crecimiento, y su trayectoria de asesinatos. So… maybe if the theory of evolution had not poisoned Jeff’s mind to the extent where he thought human life was cheap and worthless, he wouldn’t have killed all those men. Backderf also disagrees with the requirement that students should receive counseling after reading the book. During these strange seizures, her eyes would bulge like a frightened animal, and she would begin to salivate, literally frothing at the mouth. May have some underlining and highlighting of text and some writing in the margins, but there are no missing pages or anything else that would compromise the readability or legibility of the text. If readers are expecting sensational revelations from this earnest memoir by the father of mass-murderer Jeffrey Dahmer, they will be disappointed.

Time's Lev Grossman pointed out that "[t]he psychedelic wavy highlights Backderf draws on glass are like Proust’s madeleine to anybody who was alive in the 1970’s, and the way Backderf draws people owes a lot to Mad magazine’s Don Martin, . Schwartz was a reporter and the first person on the scene when Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested for murder. This issue of free will versus determinism has occupied philosophers and psychologists for centuries.

Me dejo reflexionando sobre hasta que punto una persona puede llegar a cometer ciertos actos inimaginables.

Schwartz herself has weighed in on the controversy generated by the Murphy show being aired without apparent consultation with the victims’ families or due consideration of the retraumatisation involved.

Gacy lured victims to his home with the promise of work or a warm bed and then duped them into putting on handcuffs, claiming he wanted to show them a magic trick. It expanded my knowledge on criminology, but truthfully I was just looking for a shocking, gruesome read on one of America's most infamous killers. Joyce had a whole catalogue of emotional and physical problems, which were incessant for years, and Lionel frankly states that he stayed away from her as much as possible, and buried himself in his untroubling laboratory. It’s a good inclusion, and it’s fitting that it is included after the more fulsome version, because it allows the reader to see what beats had been emphasised, or expressed more successfully given time.
