It has a slim profile which lends itself well to city use, or passing through town on your way to/from a hike.Osprey's Hike lite 26 is an unassuming technical pack that is perfect for day hikes and everyday use. Designed to fit everything you need for a day’s hike/ride/run it has simple easy to use storage with space to stash your valuables (scratch-free pocket), additional layers (shove-it pocket) and water bottles/snack bars (Powermesh pockets™). The Hikelite 26 has a traditional panel loader design and a zip that leads you to the main compartment, which has plenty of room for lunch, extra layers and other essentials you usually take for a day on the hill. The recent extended spell of dry weather has kept me from testing this aspect of the pack, but the cover gives good coverage of the pack and should perform as well as the other rain covers on Osprey’s packs. I’ve taken the HikeLite 26 on a couple of hundred miles of solo greenway walking, in addition to some hikes with friends in the Belfast hills and Mournes.

The sternum strap at the front helps keep your pack in place and has a small rescue whistle attached for emergencies. This is another superb quality Osprey backpack, which has fast become my go-to choice for day hikes, whilst I still use my larger Osprey Tempest more for travel and camping purposes. A removable hipbelt with 25mm webbing enhances load stability to keep you balanced and comfy when moving over uneven terrain. One of the most responsible things we can do as a company is giving clothes a second life by repairing them.The shoulder straps are broad, soft and well-enough cushioned to not dig into soft bust tissue, and the shape neatly sits outside the breasts rather than across. This tensioned trampoline-type mesh has been used for a number of years by manufacturers such as Dueter and Gregory and in the case of the Hikelite it really keeps the pack a long way from your body, preventing much of the sweaty back experienced with closer-fitting packs. Incredibly resistant to breakdown, these pollutants have been found across the globe; they can remain in the environment for many years after release. A range of storage space, including two PowerMesh™ side pockets and a scratch-free zippered pocket, means you can organise all your gear in one place.
