The anime adds a scene of Light and L talking in the rain and later sharing a rather tender moment with L giving Light a foot massage that has some Biblical symbolism to it, a scene that is nowhere to be found in the manga. Later, Near is just as bad, equaling L's deductive abilities while spending all his on-screen time sitting on the floor and playing with toys.

Democratic systems that had suffered a severe blow due to Light's actions are implied to have recovered again, and things start to go back to normal for most of the surviving characters. She felt that once vital characters fading into the background, the ending brings back what the fans loved about the first volume and the supporting cast are "given a chance to shine". It doesn't count as a Xanatos Gambit because, while the plan was flexible, several aspects relied on people acting predictably.The player assumes the role of a rookie FBI agent who awakens in a strange hotel and attempts to escape with the help of L, who provides assistance via an in-game PDA. It was originally composed in English by Broadway composer Frank Wildhorn, with lyrics by Jack Murphy and book by Ivan Menchell. Heart attacks, on the other hand, seem to be able to knock people completely off their feet and fling them through the air like ragdolls. Sachiko has lost her husband and now her son while her daughter Sayu is now traumatized after being kidnapped.

A one-shot chapter, titled "C-Kira Story" ( Cキラ編, C-Kira-hen), was published in Weekly Shōnen Jump on February 9, 2008. As criminals around the world die from inexplicable accidents and heart attacks, the global media suggest that a single mastermind is responsible for the mysterious murders and name them "Kira" ( キラ, the Japanese transliteration of the word "killer"). In 2007, the education bureau in Pingtung County, Taiwan asked teachers to pay attention to any negative influence on elementary school students reading the manga.

The music from the anime was composed by Yoshihisa Hirano and Hideki Taniuchi, while the CDs were also published by VAP. L becomes determined to solve the mystery of Kira and his impossible killing method, employing increasingly aggressive and risky strategies to get the information he wants. But when he regains the memories of his time as Kira, he doesn't have any moral conflict between his Light and Kira personas; he simply picks up right where he left off pre-amnesia. Everything that happened since he lost his memories was a master plan to get them and the Death Note back while getting suspicion off of him in the process.Instead of everyone in the room dying at Mikami's hand as Light intended, they are all spared by Near switching Mikami's Death Note with a fake, meaning they all hear Light point-blank confess to being Kira. Light regains his memories and uses the Death Note to kill Higuchi, regaining possession of the book. In the live-action version, the irises simply change to gold, while the anime depiction has the irises glow a bright red.
