While the popular Xenoverse series utilized the RPG genre to try something different, Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot offers a more traditional retelling of the series in a single player only experience that should at least get the hardcore fans of the series excited to experience this adventure yet again. The DLC adds a new storyline set in Future Trunks' timeline seen in Dragon Ball Z: The History of Trunks as well as an extra saga featuring Babidi and Dabura, briefly covered in Dragon Ball Z: Shin Budokai - Another Road and the manga version of Dragon Ball Super. Each character (also the supports ones) has his own Skill Tree and you will be able to unlock and improve super attacks by spending red, green, blue or rainbow Orbs, depending on the skill.

If you've only a passing interest in Dragon Ball Z, or worse yet no interest at all, I just don't think there's enough here for you. Here, DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT has the award for being the most intelligible remaking of the Dragon Ball Z editions. Fish, fly, eat, train, and battle your way through the DRAGON BALL Z sagas, making friends and building relationships with a massive cast of DRAGON BALL characters. Each one has a side story that engages you to discover more in your path or even hold and enjoy the sweet taste of a narrative well integrated into the DRAGON BALL Z: KAKAROT grand story.

Everyone I knew who was passionate about Dragon Ball was a guy, so I was conditioned to believe it was just another thing “for boys”. In addition to the playable characters, the player is able to select two supporting characters to aid in their battle each with their own special moves.

The aesthetics of the game is a highly subjective area, but I personally think the game’s color palette is too saturated and gaudy.What’s most grating is that a particular bug exists where sometimes NPCs outright disappear from their location, making a quest completion impossible until you “refresh” them back in by doing something else first, like leaving the map.

Otherwise you have the standard health bar and Ki bar, punch combos, blocking, the old “vanishing attacks” where you can dodge and counter at the last second, dashing forward and up, the ability to fire small ki blasts, a couple of swappable super attacks and the ability to do greater damage once you fill up a special meter that charges between fights, plus a team attack if you’re lucky. Kakarot strikes an unusual genre balance between an arena fighting game and a semi-open-world action-RPG. In Dragon Ball Z: Kakarot, cooking is a feature that permits you to temporaly improve your characters strengths.
