It mixes just like a classic gin, although perhaps it has some subtleties when compared to stronger flavored gins like Tanqueray or Bombay. Their dry gin is a classic, and is defined by the inclusion of sea holly, the city's own flower, foraged from the shores of the Mersey. I had a revelation that many of the unique, beautifully packaged, ‘hyper-local’ bottles of gin I’d collected over the years were in fact produced by the same big UK distilleries that had been contracted out to produce for brand owners. Taken from the term given to the Wirral by Edwardian day-trippers, Darkside is another compounded gin made with red clover flowers, chickweed and sea beet foraged by the distillery themselves, to give it a warming, smooth and dry taste with significant herbal notes. The juniper certainly stands up, as does the citrus, but I found many of the secondary botanicals weren't quite as well defined. The botanical bill is pure classic London dry, much like Beefeater, Gordons, or Tanqueray, so that is much of what I expected in terms of flavor.
