To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. In the 1960's there was a huge cultural change between the social classes and it was not unusual to see some actors getting big breaks without having gone to acting school, Some were members of local acting classes but had never studied the art of acting. The film may ignite a strong emotional response, you may even lose yourself in the story and feel the turmoil, the thrills and the fear of a character, much more than even a book, as it’s a visual and auditory soundscape. Caine, because his book is so honestly and efficiently helpful you can tell his intention is to educate and improve the art, not blow smoke. This book is easy to read and full of interesting information about acting, the film world and technical information as well as personal stories by Michael Caine.

I questioned this with the seller and he - Gary from Quantum Leap - assured me there should be no problem. I also have to add that one of the main treats i took from reading this short gem was how Caine, as big a movie actor as he is, imparts his knowledge with such warmth. He talks about his role in Alfie and how he understood Alfie but was not like him, so he pictured a friend that was very much like Alfie’s fictional character stood next to the camera and imagined him talking.I've been fascinated by filmmaking in recent years (especially after watching the Korean drama Alchemy of Souls) and want to learn as much as possible about what goes on behind the scenes. This is a quick read, but one that looks as pretty much every aspect of the film industry from an actors perspective. I was reading Sidney Lumet's Making Movies but wanted some more detail on actors and acting, which led me to finally open Acting in Film, which I'd learned about last September. Caine describes the vast differences between theatre acting and film acting, and the importance of the close-up camera.

This new revised and expanded edition features great photos throughout, with chapters on: Preparation, In Front of the Camera - Before You Shoot, The Take, Characters, Directors, On Being a Star, and much more.

Caine talks about being given the part for Zulu stating that the director's wanted a posh actor, someone that spoke very upper class for the role. Please, if you are thinking about starting an acting career or are simply looking for a book to expand your knowledge about the business, then DO consider adding this one to your list.

This is definitely invaluable material for anyone who wants to go into film (and in some ways theatre) from all aspects or anyone who’s every wanted a detailed idea of what a makes a film actor a professional.Mr Caine knows exactly what he’s doing and his advice is the most helpful I’ve found so far on acting for the camera.
