About this deal

It’s no longer tenable to imagine that the anxieties of a white heterosexual young man expelled from an expensive prep school capture the spirit of our era. I do wish there was more of Evie as after the party, their relationship falls off and Evie disappears. I love cute romantic books because not only do they make me feel all warm and gooey inside, they also make me regret being a single gay bitch with no friends. But what I really appreciated about this book was the level of depth in all other aspects just under the surface. Generally, I appreciated the description of the school and Henri's frustration at the way rich people are still able to wield their advantages, even when the playing ground is seemingly fair.

This book talks about a lot of hard hitting topics, such as parental pressure, being a first gen immigrant (Henry is a first gen Haitian American), college admissions and the unevenness of it all. Young Adult contemporaries don’t often surprise me anymore, but this one is definitely a pleasant surprise.I can’t say anything about the representation, but I can say this book gets the senior year correctly. She was compassionate, intelligent, considerate, determined, and a little intense at times, but always has good intentions at heart. From the award-winning author of The Field Guide to the North American Teenager comes a whip-smart and layered romantic comedy.

So based on this little synopsis I provided, we can see that there's no crazy stuff goin' on, but there's just enough to fill a book.

It comes with consequences, deservedly so, and while it’s not great watching characters you’ve been getting to know forced in this situation, I felt the ending and resolution was exactly what was needed. Ebooks fulfilled through Glose cannot be printed, downloaded as PDF, or read in other digital readers (like Kindle or Nook). He's a scholarship student at the illustrious and exclusive FATE Academy, he's on the debate team, he attends every party, and he's making money on the side as a dog walker during all hours of the day. One who’s extremely driven, but kind of realizes high school passed her by as she was studying, and at the end is wondering what was the magic elixir she seemed to miss out on. Some people commenting how her social persona “Cori” actually felt forced and doesn’t feel like her, but I can totally see how school Corinne and party Corinne are actually the same person.

And, though he works hard, and the ivy league college admissions system is undoubtedly rigged against anyone without connections and money, his forging the recommendation letter spurs from his entitlement as well as the academic pressure from his dad. I listened to the audiobook while at work and I kept screaming commentary to myself so many times, my coworkers kept looking at me funny. There was an underlying tone to this book that explored living with money worries and a class divide too, which I felt was handled really well.
