Your words, like your reviews, bring books to life and give them a voice before the front cover is even turned. As usual with Frank C-B it is full of comic set-pieces, that could be little short stories on their own. It's funny, it's creative, it's surprisingly poignant, it's smart, it's clever and it's consistently surprising. the main character has to discover this for himself, and there's an interesting comparison between being seen to be responsible and actually choosing to act responsibly, all wrapped up in a very entertaining story about space. A group of Dads and their chosen child end up at the theme park in China training for the greatest ride ever, a shot into space and back.

He’s certainly ‘ gifted and talented‘ enough to deceive the competition organisers, Dr Drax, and the other children.

Also, kind of wild, but this book is quite a bit less out-there now than it was when it came out 10 years ago.

In this story Liam, a precociously tall boy, who is always being mistaken for an adult, takes on the role of his dad when offered a once in a life time chance to go into space.Long-legged Liam makes a giant leap for boy-kind by competing with a group of adults for the chance to go into space. Steven Lenton hails from Cheshire where he spent many a school holiday working in the family Pom-pom Factory, packing poms and designing new products. Say on his first day at a new secondary school as a “gifted and talented” student when he is initially identified as a teacher. Then, when he finds himself a kind of pseudo-father, he steals his dad’s book on how to talk to teens, and finds himself in the old man’s shoes. Pan Macmillan) Liam Digby seems to be too big for everything from his child-blazed blazer; Liam is definitely adult sized.

She could have easily remained a shallow fame-seeker, but as the story progresses the reader gets to see more and more of Florida's heart and internal motivation.Convincing celebrity-gossip-obsessed Florida is only part of the problem: when they arrive their host, Dr Drax, tells them that it is the four children who will be going into space. It ends up that this thrill ride involves space travel, and the process of deciding who gets to go is funny and great and a great conversation-starter for kids (and grown ups if you're reading alongside). He sort of won a contest for the world’s greatest dads and conned his classmate Florida into pretending to be his daughter.
