Whether it’s an emergency situation, or just keeping your phone running on a long, boring flight, the Crave Plus Pro is an absolute must for all your travel needs. It recharges quickly and I was able to charge multiple devices at once without being tethered to an outlet.Instead of including a single-serving microUSB port, I would’ve preferred that Crave included a second USB-C port to give users the option of charging up to three devices at once, and forgoing the need to carry around a special cable just for charging purposes. That’s a ton of power, and you might think that a power bank with that much power will have an AC outlet, but that’s not the case for this Crave PowerPack 50,000mAh portable charger. For time on the road, shooting out of my car, I placed the battery pack in my Pelican case and created a mobile charging station. I think they nailed the specifications of the USB ports, providing exactly the right combination of USB-C and USB-A, while also delivering PD and QC 3.
To help you choose the right power bank, I am reviewing an ultra-powerful battery bank by Crave Direct. The only unreliable part of this power bank will be its size and weight, as it is larger and heavier than most regular power banks with lower capacities. The unit comes with dual quick charge USB-C ports, as well as a PD type C for all those Apple users out there! I actually have a pair of these chargers, so I could conceivably charge 4 batteries at the same time, as well as charging my phone and laptop. Of course, only charging phones with this power bank can make it last for a week or more, depending on how much you charge.
Those of you in the market for a thin power bank will be well served by the Crave Plus portable charger. Of course, this charger is not shockproof from falls, so you still have to be careful not to drop it. As someone who was lost in the woods as a teenager, I’m one of the staunchest advocates for how incredibly useful these things are. Most “high capacity” power banks would have about 20,000mAh to 30,000mAh; this Crave charger goes above and beyond. For instance, you can utilize the 60W port for charging your laptop while the 18W port is perfect for smartphones.
At the end of the day, how does the Crave PowerPack 2 (Model CRVPP102) stack up to other power banks on the market?My Apple laptop can be charged via USB-C, my Sony cameras can be charged via USB-C, my Rode wireless microphones and shotgun microphone are USB-powered, as is my external camera monitor, my headlamp and flashlight, my wireless headphones and of course my phone.
It does not get too warm, but it is noticeable to the touch, and it’s to be expected because that’s a lot of power for a power bank to output. This will power most smaller laptops while you’re using them, and will recharge any USB Type-C laptop. I’ve never used any of Crave’s products, so I didn’t know what to expect from the very, very thin battery pack.
All in all, I can’t stress enough what a fantastic purchase this would be, even if it’s simply used for emergencies, though I don’t think anyone would judge you for keeping it charged just to make sure your phone doesn’t die as you binge a Netflix series in bed either! It’s an absolute boon no matter how you look at it, and the Crave Plus Pro offers a massive amount of utility in an incredibly affordable, compact package. If you often shoot time-lapses with a couple of different focal lengths and don’t place cameras too far apart, this is definitely a possibility. Charging multiple devices at once will make it so that the power capacity is split up between devices. But what if you need a smaller, more portable power bank, you’re going to need to accept less capacity.
