It's been so long since I last read this that the only thing I remembered of the first volume was the Tarot arc - I'd completely forgotten about The Morningstar Option and Rachel, and that Elaine's story already starts here! Such an amazing set-up and - sorry to say - instantly several miles above Sandman's take on Lucifer. Scott Hampton's art is gorgeous and a great choice to start with. I personally don't like Chris Weston's art that much, it looks pretty basic by comparison, but the story's so good I just kind of roll with it. I might even have to re-read this one before I try the others. But I can sense some promise in here of things that I might like. Hopefully they pan out! PS - The best thing to happen to this title was when the first artist left. Look at that hot mess of a panel up there. Christ. Looks like they hired me to draw that shit.

For the rest of the book (while the letter of passage is the overreaching story arc), there are whole heaps of stories and characters, mostly bizarre and impossible, complemented by several different art styles, which make for many excellent stories. I am more than ready for the next one now. Basically everything was a little jarring and piecemeal at first. I wasn’t sure where it was all going and couldn’t figure out what Lucifer’s goal was. This is where all the cool gods and foreign dimensions begin to come in that make this series so interesting. As we see here, underestimate Lucifer at your regret, even when he's at his most vulnerable. I love how manipulative Lucifer is. We also get to see what's behind Mazikeen's mask. I will admit that I know of this character and the series for some time having read the Sandman series long ago - I just didnt know enough about it seems.

Lucifer Book Four". Vertigo. DC Comics. Archived from the original on March 3, 2016 . Retrieved August 20, 2014.Unfortunately, I felt mostly bored reading this volume so I doubt I will continue on with this series to see if Carey does find his own groove. This book should have taken me not more than a couple of hours to read, but it took me all day to get through. Maybe, one day I'll give it another chance, but for now, I'm setting it aside. Lucifer Book Two". Vertigo. DC Comics. Archived from the original on March 4, 2016 . Retrieved October 16, 2013. I love that it delves into other mythologies besides just Christianity and weaves them all together so seamlessly. I love all the side characters and especially the women and girls. We just barely meet Elaine in this volume but she turns out to be one of the most important characters in the entire series. Mazikeen doesn't do much early in the series but she really comes into her own later. And you've got others like Jill, Mona, Beatrice, and many more. Even here with the prelude issues you've got Rachel who, even though she is ultimately manipulated by Lucifer still feels like an incredibly real and fleshed out character. They're all just so unique and incredibly realistic. This isn't just a story about Lucifer, but also about everyone around him and they all get their own storylines at some point. There arrives a missive to Lucifer from the throne high above the clouds with a pass attached that wants to recruit him for a particular job. With nothing better on his list of appointments, he accepts and is then hurled headlong into an adventure filled with ancient gods, clairvoyant teenagers, his former minions and all powerful shamans. I liked Morningstar for his poetic turn of phrase even when it is about describing absolutely terrifying things :
