Description

The Gaelic definition of Nadurra simply means “natural.” It is a no chill-filtered whisky aged in new white oak casks, done in small batches. You read that right: not first-fill ex-bourbon barrels, but new white oak barrels, just like American whiskey. If any provision of these Terms is held invalid, the remainder of the Terms shall continue in full force and effect.

The following indicators should be taken as only a guide and not a set of hard and fast rules. Some "premium" whiskeys really are quite terrible, while some mass market products are good enough to pour into a decanter and serve to the Duke of Edinburgh. A+: A masterpiece and one of the ten best whiskeys of its type. Above five stars. In 1881, George’s grandson, George Smith Grant, by then running the family firm, sued the companies who had added Glenlivet to their name. It took a further three years for a compromise resolution to be signed. This allowed the Smith’s distillery to call itself The Glenlivet, while the others could hyphenate their name with ‘-Glenlivet’. Over the years, 26 distilleries have styled themselves in this way although the practice now appears to have died out. Unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise, your use of and membership to the Service are exclusively governed by Dutch law. We shall first try to settle any dispute over a dram of whisky. Disputes that cannot be settled over multiple drams of whisky shall be solely submitted to the court of Amsterdam, The Netherlands unless mandatory applicable law provides otherwise. However, I now believe that has now changed forever, and maybe I may have changed forever. Enter The Glenlivet Nadurra First Fill Selection, a Speyside single malt Scotch. This is the younger brother of The Glenlivet Nadurra Oloroso 16 Year Old. There is no age listed for the First Fill Selection and we’re left guessing, but it really doesn’t matter. This is one very enjoyable whisky experience. Our Service is an online platform which provides Members with information (e.g. bottle facts, market-indices, market values and prices) on (mostly) whisky and allows Members to add information to the platform. We do not sell, nor does the Service provide any option to buy, any alcoholic products. As a result, the virgin white oak exerts a powerful influence on the Scotch. This whisky is bottled at cask strength, just under 120 proof (119.74). The particular bottle covered here was from Batch No. FF0115, which was bottled in January 2015. The Glenlivet was always available as single malt, but it wasn’t until after the Second World War that it began its rise. By then the firm was being run by Bill Smith Grant who saw the American market as offering new opportunities for the whisky, making it arguably the first single malt brand of the modern era. That said, even in the 1970s, 95% of its production was for fillings.

I have never considered myself much of a Scotch drinker, and actually once considered that I might simply be too unsophisticated to genuinely appreciate both the history and the experience of Scottish whisky. Cost was also a barrier for me when so many excellent bourbons are generally available at 2/3rds the price. The company merges with Longmorn-Glenlivet Distilleries and Hill Thomson &Co to form The Glenlivet Distilleries

Glenlivet Nàdurra First Details

Although The Glenlivet is widely believed to be the oldest operational distillery in Scotland, it isn’t. That honour goes to Strathisla, while Glen Garioch could be even older. The Glenlivet was however one of the first to take out one of the new licences issued after the passing of the 1823 Excise Act which is accepted as being the starting point of the modern Scotch whisky industry. Whiskybase B.V. (“Whiskybase”, “we” or “us”, company details below) offers a whisky enthusiasts online platform that provides its members access to the most comprehensive, transparent and trusted resource of whisky bottles and allows and stimulates its members to contribute information about whisky bottles to the platform (“Service”). B and B-: Good and above average. The best of the mass market whiskeys fit in this category, as do the bulk of the premium brands. A B- is three stars. We may sell, license, transfer, assign or in any other way dispose of the Service (including Members) to any third party without any notification to you, e.g. (but without limitation) in connection with any reorganization, restructuring, merger or sale, or other transfer of assets.

Nothing in the Terms shall exclude or limit our liability for fraudulent misrepresentation or for death or personal injury resulting from gross negligence or willful misconduct by us. Up front there’s a noticeable sweet and fruity base composed primarily of peach and pear with a dense and deep honey. It’s fruit concentrate: rich, full, and developed, but still restrained. There’s also a light mint and lightly charred wood smell, similar to a rye whiskey. I rarely (really never) smell mint and wood in Scotch, but I bet that aging in first-fill American oak, similar to those used in bourbon, for a long 16 years infuses more bourbon-like scents. Being completely forthright, I fell in love with this scotch from the very first taste. I like consistency with my whisky and get put off when my experience is radically different depending on the environment, such as with what I’ve eaten or the cigar I’ve chosen. I’ve had several tastings and it is still just as good as the first one, and every time too.
