A number of military personnel have been granted state honours for their work in the Armed Forces. Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: year-old Stanley Bagshaw lived in the (fictional) town of Huddersgate – Oop North, “where it’s boring and slow”– with his Grandma at number four, Prince Albert Row. Chaplain to the Forces (3rd Class) Reverend Alan Paul JEANS, Royal Army Chaplains’ Department, Army Cadet Force

During his time in Whitehaven, Dr Bagshaw joined the practice at Catherine Street Surgery, and subsequently moved to Church Street surgery in 1986 and latterly to Mansion House Surgery in Whitehaven. The character of Stanley Bagshaw was created and illustrated by Bob Wilson in a series of children’s books first published in 1980. The illustrations from the books were then used to create a six-part Yorkshire Television series for ITV, also narrated by Wilson. Warrant Officer Class 1 Martin Steven LANCASTER, Adjutant General’s Corps (Staff and Personnel Support BranchRecipients are cited for a wide range of activities, such as championing the needs of personnel, leading on conservation, representing the Army with distinction and providing outstanding support to the COVID-19 response.

Major (Acting Lieutenant Colonel) Gregory George ANDREWS, MBE, Corps of Royal Engineers, Army Reserve Defence Secretary Ben Wallace said: “Congratulations to our esteemed Armed Forces personnel receiving state honours from Her Majesty The Queen in this year’s Birthday Honours List. While the town itself was pretty dull (it was famed for its tramlines and the local football team, Huddersgate Albion), things seemed to constantly “happen” to our Stan, invariably requiring him to be the hero of the day, preventing tragedies, defeating villains, and generally saving the day. The work our people do every day is nothing short of exceptional and I am proud to see so many individuals recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty to achieve excellence. Warrant Officer Class 2 (now Warrant Officer Class 1) Samuel Stewart VANDAL, VR, Corps of Royal Engineers, Army Reserve Meritorious Service Medal ListThe work our people do every day is nothing short of exceptional and I am proud to see so many individuals recognised for going above and beyond the call of duty to achieve excellence.” Warrant Officer Class 2 (now Captain) Ronald PARKER, Corps of Royal Engineers (now Royal Army Medical Corps)
