About this deal

That’s the elevator pitch for Targi if explaining it to your gaming partner. In essence, it’s rather simple. It’s a game that provides effortless elegance, once you’ve grasped the rules. That’s my job here – to explain them to you! – but before we get started, let’s set up the game. Setting Up The Sahara Each player receives the 3 targis and 2 Tribe markers in their chosen color along with 4 victory points (VP) worth of VP tokens, 1 coin, and 2 of each resource. The remaining coins, VP tokens, and resources are placed close by in a general supply. Then a start player is selected and they receive the start player token. And with that, you’re ready to begin playing Targi. Through the Desert

You want something simple: Gloomhaven's strength is also its downfall. Because it's a lot deeper than most games, it's a lot more complicated as well. How it works: Your aim is simple - build a quilt before the timer runs out. Fortunately, that process is much easier in Patchwork than it would be in real life. Players 'buy' patches to slot onto their board with buttons, and this earns them buttons in return. They can then buy more patches that earn them even more buttons. It's a satisfying domino effect, and whoever collects the most buttons at the end will win. Exception: One of the Tribe cards lets a player move 2 laid out cards; however, the player may not leave any gaps after moving his cards.Gameplay: Naturally, there's a catch to all this. To be precise, certain patches cost more to buy and each one advances the timer forward a set number of spaces. That means splashing out on a lucrative tile now might limit what you can do later. What's more, you'll lose points if you leave spaces on your quilt unfilled. If you were not blown away by Targi then I would wager this won’t change that. It just makes a great game to have a few more options. It won’t look or feel that different, the colour scheme will still be bland and uninspiring, the game still just a two-player only experience. The interaction and volume still somewhat muted. But as I say, maybe you just didn’t like it for the analysis paralysis that can occur. And if this is the case, buy this immediately. You want a multiplayer game: Sadly, Jaipur can only be played with two players - there's no way to add more people into the mix. (Trust us, we've tried.)

The Tribe cards are placed in front of the player. To play a Tribe card, the player must pay its cost using Goods and/or gold. You already have Splendor: We'd argue that this is the superior game, but it might be a little too similar for anyone that already owns its predecessor. Note: If a player has placed 2 of his Targis on two cards in the same row or column, this will not create an intersection. In such a case, the player will only place 1 Tribe marker.Because each of these baddies is so distinctive mechanically speaking, this is the sort of game that benefits from repeat play as well. It'll take you a match or two to understand how they work, and different match-ups provide all-new challenges. (Especially if you add the Disney Villainous expansions.) After using actions from cards in the middle of the playing field, the player retrieves their tribe marker, and the used card is replaced by one of the other sort. When using a resource card, the player collects the corresponding token(s), discards the card, and replaces it with a tribe card face down. When using a tribe card, the player decides what to do with it, and then replaces it with a resource card face down.

What you need to know: Think you can handle Jurassic Park better than its creators? The Legacy of Isla Nublar lets you give it a good go. Along with tense gameplay and consequence-driven mechanics, it improves on the 'legacy' format (where your decisions follow you) by providing something so much more replayable than its peers. Hold onto your butts, because few cooperative board games can match it.You're expecting it to be exactly the same as 7 Wonders: Because certain features have been taken out or tweaked to accommodate fewer players (not to mention a lower run-time), Duel may disappoint if you're expecting the same breadth of options offered in the original game. Trader: Players may exchange 3 of the same goods for 1 gold, or 2 identical goods for 1 other good. Players may exchange as many times as they are able.
