About this deal

Or, you could do this activity for larger classes and organize it so that each week, 5 different children get to give it a try. ANYTIME you can find anything REAL to put inside-it’s going to be a big hit. Turtles, gerbils, cats, works, spiders, snake. If you have a neighbor with a pet animal—borrow it! HALLOWEEN version of what’s in the box! In advance, prepare a large shoebox or copy paper box by cutting a hand-sized hole and then covering it with a handkerchief, so students can reach in but can’t see inside.

Missionary – A player's score is how many of the tiles remain uncovered at the end of the player's turn. For example, a player scores 3 if, at the end of their turn, 3 tiles remain open. The player with the lowest score wins. I love using “What’s in the bag?” activities with little ones. Here are 5 reasons why I love this activity… Tournament – Rounds are played with the Golf scoring method until a player reaches or exceeds a grand total of 100 points, at which time the player with the lowest point total is declared to be the winner. At the end of each round, each player's score for the round is added to the player's total score. When a player's score reaches 45, the player must drop out of the game. The last player remaining wins the game.

5 reasons to do the “What’s in the bag?” activity in your sessions:

Canoga – A gambling variant produced by the Pacific Game Company; the company also produced a 12-tile variant, Canoga XII. (Canoga can also be played using a regular game set using chips.)

Possible themes for the Mystery Box activity include animals, food, sports, occupations, household objects, holidays, or specific units of study. Can the Mystery Box activity be used for individual practice? A box (you can also use a bowl or jar or cup.) Some random objects to place in it. Optional: construction paper and glue. For example, say the child puts their hand in the box and feels around. They think they are feeling spaghetti, they would write spaghetti on the paper or also have them write what the food/object would represent. They would have to guess what would spaghetti be. Ex. Spaghetti if the child thought that the spaghetti could maybe be brains, and they would write spaghetti/brains on the paper. Whichever child had the most correct answers would win.

Encourage your child to think of questions to ask you to help them work out which animal you're thinking of. For example, Does it have fur? Can it be a pet? Does it live in a cold place? It will take practice for your child to learn to ask the right sort of questions. Prep Time: About 15 – 20 minutes the first time you play. Afterwards, you can get going in about 30 seconds. All 12 are up, but use a 20-sided die rather than the pair of 6 dice: 20-sided die playing 12 numbers. Try this FUN Halloween Mystery Box game for kids and adults – also called the ‘touch and feel game’–with these FREE printables & list of ideas! I wanted to use items that wouldn’t be too messy because if you’re using them at a party, you don’t have to worry about all the kids having messy hands or getting stuff on their costumes ( which could end in tears and who wants that, right?!) The possibilities are endless on any theme you could think of for this touch and feel game for kids! This is also a great activity to do with a Halloween-themed story too! We’d recommend the following books which also have a little anticipation but are not too scary:
