About this deal

The hydration system tested in the study is similar to Profile Designs Aqualite drinking system for aero bars, which has been developed specifically for triathletes. Considering that their products are top-notch no matter what decision you make, it should only make sense that we include one such component that is featured on one of their larger systems. With the Mini Wing 105, this design combined with its other features makes this the best dual rear mount we came across, though it does come with some caveats not often seen with XLAB hydration systems. Up and Down

In around a month I will have my new bike (an SL6), and my intention has been to make it "aero with judgement". What I mean is, whenever aero gains could be made relatively easily and without compromising too much else, I would go for them. Profile Designs makes another appearance on our list, but this time it is for those racers who need more hydration than most. That said, we actually think this is a better practice bike frame mount rather than a competition-worthy option. Arguably the best quality of the Gorilla XT is the fact that it is made of carbon fiber, though this comes with some caveats too.Time gain per type of hydration system over the length of an Ironman distance in comparison with standard 500mL bottle fixed on the downtube For those of you who do not want to have to squeeze extra hard while riding, the RZ2 comes with a bottle that is much easier to squeeze than some. In this light, I have equipped it with wheels/handlebar/tires that would give me any practically minuscule yet theoretically gratifying gains, without compromising other variables too much. Make no mistake, Speedfil is definitely not on par with some of the more prestigious brands on our list, but it does have the advantage of a significantly lower price than the other front mounted hydration systems too. The Gorilla XT is the primary cage that the overwhelming majority of XLAB rear mounted hydration systems use. Light and Strong

A 500ml round bottle is very common especially in triathlon events where you may get a bottle handup from an aid station. A smaller bottle like this can also be placed in multiple locations around the bike. In this test we found that the worst place to keep a 500ml round bottle was one of the more convenient: on the downtube! This cost 5.0w at 40kph, or 2.1w at 30kph. Over an Ironman bike leg at 5hr30min speed (32.7kph) this would be a 2min5sec penalty. Example of Elite Chrono aero water bottle and cage system How many watts does an aero water bottle save?

Using an aero bottle for a triathlon can give you a marginal advantage. It gives up to a 1.5W advantage over standard bottles, which can be useful for long-distance events. This is not the best option to improve your bike aerodynamic and is not allowed for UCI races. The material is tasteless and it does not react to food. Titanium is non-toxic, uncoated, and chemical resistant, SOTO’s new double-walled titanium Aero Bottle is not only an alternative for conventional insulated bottles when camping, cycling, hiking and traveling. It is also a reliable, stylish and long-lasting companion for everyday use. Wiel is likely a company not too many triathlon racers are familiar with in part because it is a fairly new company and also because they specialize in mountain biking products. UCI races are regulated by strict rules to ensure technology is not coming into the way of the cyclist’s performance. It is important for them to ensure that everyone is riding with a similar aerodynamic advantage. The real function of water bottles is to allow riders to rehydrate while cycling. This is why the UCI considers that using a bottle as an aerodynamic advantage is not fair to the other riders.

Finally, this hydration system maximizes its design with an aerodynamic profile as well as a non-slip grip. The way that XLABs is able to keep a near clone of their flagship hydration system at such a low price is by using a nylon cage.A 900ml round bottle is often used when an athlete is looking to be self supported, keeping all their own hydration on the bike. In all cases it was slower than the 500ml bottle, and was particularly slow on the downtube, costing a huge 8.2w at 40kph, and 3.5w at 30kph! Out of all the options tested this was the worst, adding up to 3min20sec over an IM bike leg. Because of how long a triathlon takes to run, it is unlikely that the small amounts of time and energy used on one type or the minor annoyances of another type will cost you the race. Instead, and due to the endurance nature of a triathlon race, it is far more important that the bike fueling system feel as comfortable and natural as possible, even if that means taking a bit more time than you otherwise might.
