The healing time of HSL lesions treated with Herpatch was comparable to that of lesions treated with Compeed and with Zovirax (primary endpoint). The differences among Herpatch, Compeed and Zovirax were small and not statistically significant. Herpatch contains several ingredients that provide perfect conditions for wound healing, while the Compeed semiocclusive hydrocolloid dressing promotes moist wound healing and reduces crusting 19, 20. Both products do not influence the viral replication cycle. Only Zovirax includes an antiviral agent (5% acyclovir) 17. Application of this substance at an early prodromal stage leads to an inhibition of the viral replication of HSV-1 in the host cell 39. What causes a cold sore?

Herpatch can be used at any stage of the outbreak. However, we suggest its application at the first sign of appearance.
