While there has been a bit of cleaning (now it’s just murderous weapons or halberds), it allows also for customization of the different parts. With the new Khorne book around the corner and the new release of the Stormcast Eternals book, it seems GW is revisiting its Battletomes for Age of Sigmar. It is also the only way to obtain this version of the Killaboss and the Murknob. It could be also an interesting set for a generic Big Waaagh! army considering there are 2 shooting units and a battleline. It contains some really good options to any Nurgle army despite mixing mortals with demons. Plaguebearers are a solid option both as summons and as battleline, Spoilpox Scrivener is always a valid hero and the Pusgoyles represent now the fastest Nurgle unit. Savings-wise, we’re once again probably looking at last year for reference where we had anything from 30% – 37% in savings for these boxes versus buying the units individually at retail. That’s Nothing to sniff at! it’s a solid saving.There’s a bit of a mix in here, whilst you get some great units like the Screaming Bell and Stormfiends. The Clanrats and Plague Monks are multitudinous, but they are also ancient kits! The sprues don’t even have part-number on. that’s how old they are. The Warp Lightning Cannon, that is a Skryre unit, can be assembled also as a Plagueclaw Catapult, that belongs to the Pestilens, while everything else is Masterclan.

Every good Grey Seer needs a catastrophically powerful weapon to gamble on in the heat of battle, a role filled by the Warp Lightning Cannon . This techno-arcane weapon fires devastating bolts of pure warp lightning at its foes, erasing whole units and giant monsters alike in an emerald green flash! Magic-rich Skaventide forces can make the most of endless spells with easy access to a wide variety of Wizards. The skaven-exclusive Warp Lightning Vortex is still as formidable as ever.The impossibility to change loadout for all 3 units in the box means that their use strongly depends from the current set of rules. In Age of Sigmar 3.0 Prosecutors with Paired Celestial Warhammers are an interesting option, Liberators with weapon and shield (after a much-simplified warscroll) still a valid battleline and the Lord-Relictor an evergreen hero. The Skeletons are the only pure battleline in this box, and their minimum size unit is 10, meaning that you can either assemble 2 units of 10, or a reinforced unit. The new skeleton models with a single weapon profile makes so much easier choosing how to assemble them. Paul: The Verminlord Warpseer has long been a mainstay of skaven lists. With all the new uses for command points, The Great Manipulators ability really shines, giving you more command points to use across your entire army. The box actually has some useful units and minis inside, so this could be a good starting point for players. Let’s see what type of cash it will save you, though. The skaven are a race of perfidious ratfolk who gnaw on the very fabric of existence, pouring from their Under-Empire in teeming swarms to spread corruption and conquer the Mortal Realms in the name of the Great Horned Rat. Led by maniacal Grey Seers, great seething hordes of Clanrats scurry to war, joined by hulking mutant Stormfiends bristling with esoteric weaponry, and unstable Warp Lightning Cannons that can obliterate entire regiments – if they don't destroy themselves first... The Branchwych has its ups and downs, being a single caster foot hero, however having one is always useful. The Treelord has 3 assembly options, 2 of which are leaders Treelord Ancient and Spirit of Durthu, and all three are Behemoths and Monsters. Our preference goes on the Treelord Ancient, but having 2 boxes you could have space for a second option, like a simple Treelord. The Kurnoth Hunters are an extremely versatile kit with 3 warscrolls profiles: those armed with Greatbows are the best archers available in the army, the Greatswords are balanced hitters and the Scythes are there for their high rend and range. Whichever way you go, you will need more.

Thousand Sons Combat Patrol:

This is a good starting place for a Beasts of Chaos army. It contains a hero you will need (the Great Bray-shaman), 2 battleline options and 2 conditional battleline. The only regret is that the hero is not the brand-new Beastlord, but otherwise it’s a great set. The leader is a Magister on Disc of Tzeentch, a valuable leader for mortals, with the new rules almost a must-take. From Combat Patrol to Start Collecting, Vanguard, and Battleforce box sets, there are still a ton of releases out there with decent value inside to start a new Warhammer army for the New Year (or just add to your existing forces).

But not so many Great Bray-Shamans, so it’s up to you if the discount allows for duplicate heroes or not.
