I also wanted it to be a blanket that could easily be popped in the washing machine (an essential requirement for a child’s blanket). The yarn I chose was Stylecraft Special DK which is a favourite of mine. It is hard wearing and easy to wash. It also comes in a great array of colours and is very economical.

I would say to just give it a go, it doesn’t have to be perfect at the beginning. You can always work on improving your photographs and you have to start somewhere.

Work sl st in next st, then 1tr in next st. Continue referring to the pattern. Work sl st into top of first tr. Work a further 2 rows in dc but when you come to the end of your 4th row, start to work your last dc, but instead of using your current yarn to pull through the last 2 loops on your hook, change to Dark Pink, take the yarn round the hook and pull through the last 2 loops. This is a neater way of changing yarn and is used for every colour change throughout the pattern.
