In May 1969, Allyson arrived in London to study nursing and midwifery as she wanted to follow in her mother’s footsteps, as she loved the passion and dedication that her mother showed for her own career. She wanted to feel the same way about her career. She was unprepared for the hostile reception and overt racism she received in her training. However, she eventually overcame this hurdle and with hard work and commitment, she achieved her goals.
