About this deal

At the same time, the clove is underlined by a subtle sweet-spicy nuance, which ensures that the heart note has a beautiful smooth substance and is due to the cinnamon. The first thing you can perceive is a nice intense aromatic note, which also brings a small spicy touch and gives the top note something pleasantly soft and is due to the cardamom, which by the way is also dimmed in the first part of the heart note, but still very well perceptible. Homme has excellent longevity and average sillage. While Homme is marketed to men I can see women who enjoy a spicy fragrance also enjoying it. Some of Ropion's popular creations include Givenchy Ysatis, Givenchy Amarige, Kenzo Jungle Elephant, Calvin Klein Euphoria, Thierry Mugler Alien, Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb, and Lancôme La Vie Est Belle. However, his most famous creation is arguably Portrait of a Lady for Frédéric Malle, which he developed with his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. This fragrance is considered a masterpiece in the fragrance industry and has received critical acclaim.

Italian designer brand Costume National is known for its eccentric couture and stellar fragrances. Releases like Cyber Garden, Scent Intense, 21, and Soul have all been lauded by fragrance lovers for their quality and originality. Soul Parfum EXT: a pure and elegant unisex oriental fragrance! The Amber heart creates a unique, noble and romantic olfactory symphony.

Secret Woods EDP: "I prefer to wear it in the evening, for special occasions: it has an undeniable charm that has never failed to impress me!" - Humbert

Homme is the fragrance of a man with impeccable taste, who prefers a neutral colour palette and loves being surrounded by unique objects, the pursuit of absolute quality and design. His innate elegance is never boasted and is the result of a refined attitude towards beauty, expressed in every facet of his essence. Homme is timeless elegance; a merino wool overcoat; a byword for sophistication. The eau de parfum opens with fresh top notes of bergamot, grapefruit and cardamom. The heart reveals a distinctive nature, thanks to an unexpected mix of LMR* cinnamon of Grasse, thyme and cloves. In the base notes, patchouli, sandalwood and labdanum lay bare the depth and mystery of the male character. This is magnetic alchemy of seduction, mystery and timeless elegance. Ropion's creations are known for their exact olfactory balance and flawless composition. He is a daring perfectionist who takes risks to create masterpieces that stand out in the industry. His perfumes are like great architectural feats, balancing excessive doses of powerful ingredients with meticulously measured, subtler accords, until the composition holds up on its own.

Dominique Ropion is a French master perfumer, born in Paris in 1955. He attended the Roure Bertrand Dupont perfumery school in Grasse to pursue his passion for perfumery. After completing his education, he started his career at the legendary Roure Bertrand laboratories, where he met his friend and collaborator, Frédéric Malle. Ropion was Laurent Bruyere's most frequent co-creator, working together with him on eight different fragrances. The most well known of these is Thierry Mugler Alien. In many ways Homme is a classic bit of Ropion construction and there are some elements from two of my favorite overlooked fragrances by M. Ropion; the Kenzo pair of Jungle L'Elephant and Jungle Le Tigre. The eau de parfum and Costume National Homme Parfum are quite similar in terms of scent, but the differences all come down to the levels of certain ingredients. Costume National has been one of the more successful clothing designers who have made the foray into fragrance. Laurent Bruyere created the first four fragrances for Costume National. Scent was followed in close succession by Scent Intense, Scent Gloss and Scent Sheer. These fragrances were all inspired by the tropical flower hibiscus and he used it in interesting combinations.

Since I have a test bottle, I don’t have a cap, but the cap is like other Costume National fragrances, meaning that it fits very closely on the sprayer and kind of makes you wonder if there’s even any room for the sprayer underneath. I’ll attach a picture of my bottle of Scent Intense for reference. The sprayer itself is your average run-of-the-mill atomizer, nothing fancy but nothing shabby either. If you didn't like the original but like the idea of the original, give this a try. You just might fall in love. Pop Collection EDP: Pink Grapefruit and Jasmine mingle with woody notes of Patchouli and Cashmeran, in an elegant minimalist fragrance that balances simplicity and originality. My initial impression stays, this is a wonderful perfume. Even for those that don't like cloves, like me, this can be perfectly accesible. The comparison to Comme des Garçons is one that I can understand, especially during the first few minutes. But this perfume is a lot softer and much less pungent than CDG, which was more medicinal and heavy. I find CNH more versatile and more crowd friendly. It kind of reminds me of the holidays, don't know why though, but it does. These two notes are surrounded by a beautiful light balsamic note reminiscent of blossom honey, which gives the base flattering attributes and allows the fragrance to fade away wonderfully. J EDP: a tribute to Japanese tradition with a modern twist. The fragrance combines fine ingredients with typical Japanese delicacy, creating an ethereal and luminous fragrance.

Costume National Homme Parfum is a spice bomb of epic proportions. I will caution you: if you don’t like spicy fragrances, STAY AWAY. There is an appealing “closed space” aroma (a scent blend of old wood; antique, crumbling papers; and dried leather) in Homme’s mid-development. I’ve always loved the smells of dusty attics, the insides of old trunks and wood cabinets; and glass-fronted bookcases that have been shut for too long. (I’m a ‘ghost” at heart, I guess.) Homme’s spice notes never fade away but as the fragrance dries down, the scents of patchouli, cedar/sandalwood and leather-lite become apparent. The extreme dry-down of Homme smells of soft, plush, and lightly spiced amber. First on the list would be the original Costume National Homme EDP. It’s still readily available, but usually goes for at or around the same price as the parfum on online discounters. So unless you really love the original (and some do indeed prefer it to the parfum) , I personally would opt for the parfum instead. Homme is a wonderful companion for the spring, autumn and winter months for the slightly younger, or slightly young-at-heart gentleman looking for an aromatic, flattering fragrance that stands out a little from the crowd.

Dolce di Giorno by Italian niche brand Bois 1920 has often been called a “niche” version of Costume National Homme with a heavy dose of plum. Not having smelt that fragrance myself, I can’t really comment on that, but the parfum already smells “niche” to my nose, so I won’t be seeking it out. The fragrance opens up with a blast of grapefruit and the distinctive, licoricey twang of green cardamom pods. While I’m not a big fan of cardamom in food other than as an accent note (it always makes my tongue dry out), I absolutely love the smell of cardamom. This has one of the most realistic and zingy cardamom notes I’ve encountered so far, and so I was in love from first spray. These changes, in my view, dramatically improve upon the original fragrance. The materials here also seem much higher quality, particularly the sandalwood, giving the parfum a roundness, smoothness, and balance which I did not find in the original.
