About this deal

After you setup your preferences and paired your smartphone, press to start a game of golf. The Approach G12 GPS will be activated and then look for courses in your vicinity. Select your course and respond to the questions about keeping score and what color tee you are driving from. There are more than 41,000 courses around the world preloaded on the G12 so your local courses should be on the device. Since I often golf by myself to practice my game, I prefer to use Garmin devices that keep score. I find they are very accurate at keeping score, more so than even myself trying to remember how many shots I took. Whether or not you choose the G12, remember that any golf GPS device you buy should be able to improve your performance on a wide variety of courses. As you can see, the Approach G12 is tiny. It’s barely 2″ tall and less than 1/2″ wide, even with the belt clip. There are four buttons around the edge, and each one’s function is clearly labeled. The size is a mixed bag. It’s barely noticeable on your hip, which is great. The downside is that those with larger hands may find the buttons tough to operate. The buttons are solid and have a good, clear press, but getting your fingers situated on the device can be a challenge.Yep. Absolutely. It works as advertised, and is exactly what you’d expect from a company like Garmin.

An extra feature of the G12 that I appreciate is the ability to measure a shot. From your starting location, press the OK button, scroll down to “Measure Shot” and select OK again. The distance updates as you walk and when you arrive at the ball’s new location, it will tell you how far it travelled from the point where you selected “Measure Shot.” The Approach G12 is a great compliment to the Garmin ecosystem as well. This device is compatible with their CT10 club sensors. It also pairs with the Garmin Golf smartphone app. Welcome to The Golf Shop Online, where our passion for golf drives us to provide you with an exceptional shopping experience! At the end of nine holes, a menu pops up asking if you want to continue the round. That makes it easy to “just play nine.”

Who is the G12 for?

Take the Garmin Approach G12 for example. It’s a simple, affordable, reliable GPS device that has what you really need to play better rounds. So in today’s review, we wanted to shed some light on this oft overlooked golf GPS device from Garmin. You can use it to manually input the exact location of the pin and to keep score. Like the G12, you can use the S12 to see the exact shape of each green you play. Pros: Why should you do this? Two reasons really. Firstly it’s always good to know how far you have hit your tee shot, especially when you catch one nicely. Secondly, when you know how far you tend to hit from the tee it makes it easier to find your ball if you miss the fairway.

The Garmin Approach G12 does so many things right that it is hard to know where to begin singing its praises. Finally, it’s for anyone that doesn’t want to pay an arm and a leg for a golf GPS device with features that have nothing to do with golf. It gave accurate distances to the green that were right in line with what I got from my rangefinder. It’s not quite as feature heavy as the larger and more expensive Garmin G80– but it’s just as accurate.

The Green View feature gives you each green’s true shape from wherever you are on the course, and it allows you to drag-and-drop the pin for greater accuracy. The Garmin Approach G12 would be a great device for any golfer looking to be more competitive at pretty much any course. It provides in depth course information like your distance from key course hazards and layups.Even though the G12 is small, the numbers on its screen are large and easy to read. The screen is 23mm x 23mm, with a resolution of 176×176 pixels. I can easily see my yardages without resorting to my reading glasses (which is more than I can say about a couple of other GPS units I own). The G12 isn't a watch and it isn't smart. It's all about golf, nothing else. Unlike GPS watches, this is a device you keep in your golf bag and it only comes out when you're playing. It's waterproof too so there's no need to worry about it when you're playing in a downpour. Carly holds the ladies course record (68) at her home club Parkstone and her lowest competition round (seven-under-par 65) was carded in the pro-am of the Irish Ladies Open at Killeen Castle, playing alongside Solheim Cup superstar Anna Nordqvist. Although her current handicap index has crept up to 3.7 since Covid she has her sights firmly set on achieving that elusive scratch handicap and hopefully playing for her country when she’s 50. One of the biggest differences between these two devices in terms of features is that the G10 has no smartphone compatibility.
