Thankfully they are now boxed up and waiting for the carrier to collect and take them off to the new owner. Also, unlike the RS6s and PMCs the Wharfedales aren't as holographic or transparent. Nor does it have the texture, almost sounding one dimensional. Some have suggested the design and implementation on the Wharfedales aren't as good... after 3 weeks of ownership it's hard to find a more plausible explanation. This 85th edition showcases latest advancements and further upgrades the already hugely impressive 80th Anniversary speaker. Available in the same finishes, the main difference is in the Denton 85 swapping out the 5" woven kevlar cone for a 6.5" variation of the same material and replacing the 1" textile tweeter for a soft dome design. The result is higher sensitivity to facilitate more demanding hifi components, better crossover and wider frequency spectrum. Based on Original Denton Overall I would give the KEF Q350s a solid thumbs up. They do punch quite above their cost point but these days that's no big surprise given the available computer modeling and testing that would have been a dream for speaker designers in the past.. I'm curious how the R Series would perform. But that's a future hope. That bullet was making me crazy... Ended up buying a pair within two weeks of this post if I'm not mistaken]

Our 200mS decay spectrum (not shown here) was clean, even at low frequencies; the cabinet is not ‘hot’ and will not overhang or boom. The drive units are relatively uncoloured too. Can anyone who has used both sets of speakers clarify the differences and similarities between the two? It’s a very careful balance. The Dentons never give the impression they are emphasising one part of the music to the detriment of another yet still manage to avoid sounding overly dry and clinical. Instead they just make music sound fun – whether you want to delve deep into a mix or simply let it flow over you. The Dentons are noticeably more restrained on top, with a gentle roll-off that gives them their "touch of warmth," as their designer described it. In this respect they do remind me of vintage speakers from the '60s, which I believe was Peter Comeau's intention. What HiFi accurately summarized them thusly: "Smooth, rich and expressive presentation."

Also, I need to read up a bit on them, review-wise, so I can make sure I'll be able to power them with my Fisher 800C if needed. My 2000x needs some work, plus I love the sound of my Fisher anyway, but damn, I want a pair of those things. I've been saying how I can use a smaller, modern alternative to my big W90's, and I was thinking about a pair of B&W DM23's if I can find some, but I'd rather have those Dentons. And if you’re perhaps harbouring any fears that recessed 1960s-style front baffle may restrict imaging then you can put them to one side immediately.

The treble on this 12" cut was clean though perhaps a bit rolled-off. Very British polite, if I do say so myself. The brashness of the cymbals were muted, though to what degree would require further exploration. But the first impression was of a very listenable speaker that didn't sound forward or overly bright. That can be a difficult thing for many small speakers since the temptation for manufacturers is to make a speaker that has a lot of fake detail by having a tipped-up response. I like to build another system around Wharfedale Denton 80th Anv. speakers and looking to replace above components as I will move those from current to my secondary habitat. As for the Ushers, they have a slight reported treble lift but I personally haven't noticed it much. However, my high frequency hearing is plateaing out at around 13khz . Wharfedale Denton 85 Anniversary Speakers (Pair) in Walnut is a classic bookshelf dual-way design with elegantly hand-veneered cabinets in walnut with an inset front baffle and classic Tungsten cloth grille. It showcases the principles of founder Gilbert Briggs who made Wharfedale one of the most famous loudspeaker brands in the world by concentrating on quality and value for money. Cutting-edge Performance Rogers was one of the original manufacturers and here are "new ones" I mentioned. This pair would probably not exist if they would have not a chance to cash in on the antique market and the cult status of the classic. They are as loyal to the original as possible including the unfriendly prehistoric way the grilles should be placed and ripped off and the shiny plastic front hidint behind. With the difference being that they chose an exclusive type of wood.My 20 wpc 7189 Sherwood integrated had absolutely no trouble driving the Wharfedales as loud as I cared to listen, which was not too loud, but loud enough.
