About this deal

As a witch practicing folk witchcraft, I found much of this book unrelateable. It is a well-written book and the author has done a fine job of creating this work. It’s detailed, well researched, and carefully organized. It’s got a wealth of prayers to call upon depending on the need. And if my path was the same as those whom the book was written for - Wiccans, Pagans, and polytheists - this book would be a great reference to have in any personal library. Offerings are simple. They can be anything your god or goddess would enjoy: food, beverage, water, incense, herbal blends, art, crystals, candle flame, dance and poetry. Some gods enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning. Some enjoy a portion of your dinner at night. While others prefer the scent of patchouli incense. Incorporate offerings into your daily routine and watch the blessings roll in!

Fourth, the mainstreaming of Paganism has decreased the need for Pagans to define themselves by what they aren't. This has meant a lessening of wholesale rejection of the practices of other religions. Ancient Ones, bend down your ears to hear my prayer. The world is quiet and resting. So to bring peace to my soul, and to the spirit(s) of ________, [insert any names of people who have passed over] who await reincarnation. Take any restlessness, any worry, and cover it in a healing blanket of snow. Not all pagans are Wiccan, but he certainly seems to think that we're all Wiccans who want to follow his rather narrow-minded viewpoint.

Pagan Prayer for the Season of Summer

The fundamentalist church where I grew up taught that scripted prayers were soulless and useless. They didn’t even like the Lord’s Prayer – they said it was intended to be a template for extemporaneous prayers, not something to pray over and over again. Of course, public extemporaneous prayer is hard, so they ended up falling into their own clichés and repetitions that were a weak parody of good scripted prayers – but at least they weren’t Catholic. Prayer can take many forms. It can be scripted or unscripted, formal or conversational, calm and rational or spirited and passionate. Different types of prayers are especially suited for different situations, but the only way to pray wrong is to pray disrespectfully. Tirgereh, who wrote the above Rosary, says: Memorization, of course, is preferred. You may, however, choose to alternate your rosary prayers based upon need or whim. In which case, memorization may be difficult until lengthy practice is employed. [This rosary is structured like a Catholic Rosary, with the exception of having nine beads per decade instead of ten.] To make the sign of the 5-Rayed Star (pentagram): start with the first two fingers touching the forehead, then proceed to the left breast, the right shoulder, left shoulder, down to the right breast, and ending again at the forehead.

As Paganism is a very diverse religion with many distinct though related traditions, the forms of Pagan worship vary widely. It may be collective or solitary. It may consist of informal prayer or meditation, or of formal, structured rituals through which the participants affirm their deep spiritual connection with nature, honour their Gods and Goddesses, and celebrate the seasonal festivals of the turning year and the rites of passage of human life. When you pray to the gods, you’re asking them to bless you and turn their benevolent attention to you. If you want to make sure that you don’t suffer any misfortune, then you should ask the gods to watch over you while you’re doing this. I read this for one purpose only: to understand why folks pray. I've only known the grovelling prayers of the head-covered, trembling, fearful disciples of [fill in oppressive deity here]. What are these Pagans praying for? Aren't they supposed to be equal to gods and goddesses? On days you feel you need an extra boost of comfort or confidence, call a pagan friend. There’s nothing like talking to someone of like-mind and kindred spirit. 30. Ground and Center A prayer known as the Gorsedd Prayer (Gweddi’r Orsedd) by Iolo Morganwg is a staple reading for many Druidic rites. Traditional Wicca

Rise to Greet the Sun A vital part of Germanic culture, it soon spread northward and developed into what scholars have called "Norse Paganism" or the "Old Norse religion" from the first few centuries CE.
