Having worked at Shepherds as a recent graduate, she spent several years away working for a large corporate veterinary company running a practice and then in a national clinical leadership position before rejoining the Shepherds team as a Director in 2021. She is immensely proud of being part of a practice that is independent and embedded in the community whilst providing excellent veterinary care. The letter lamed originated as a representation of a shepherd's crook or goad, from which the Latin letter L has evolved. [ citation needed]

A bishop carries something we call a crozier, which is really a symbol for the staff a shepherd carries. I carry one as the bishop of the church, the chief shepherd over the Diocese of Central Florida, and also as someone who is subject to Jesus’ ministry to me. Dumuzid, later known as Tammuz, was an important rural deity in ancient Mesopotamian religion, who was revered as the patron god of shepherds. [9] [10] In his role as Dumuzid sipad ("Dumuzid the Shepherd"), he was believed to be the provider of milk, [10] which was a rare, seasonal commodity in ancient Sumer due to the fact that it could not easily be stored without spoiling. [10] Under this same title, Dumuzid was thought to have been the fifth antediluvian king of the Sumerian city-state of Bad-tibira. [9] In the Sumerian poem Inanna Prefers the Farmer, Dumuzid competes with the farmer Enkidu for the affection of the goddess Inanna and ultimately wins her favor. [11] [12] Ancient Near Eastern peoples associated Dumuzid with the springtime, when the land was fertile and abundant, [10] [13] but, during the summer months, when the land was dry and barren, it was thought that Dumuzid had "died". Church Directory printing for a subgroup has been corrected where it could sometimes include household entries for people not in that subgroup. The rod was used to fight off wild animals and to count the sheep and direct them. The rod prodded them during the day in the fields and at night into the sheepfold.
