About this deal

Say hello to the Blue family’s smallest and slimmest air purifier, the Blue Pure 411. It contains Blueair’s world-leading filter technology and is designed for rooms up to 15 m² (161 ft²) Just grab it, place it wherever you want, plug it in, and breathe perfectly clean air 24/7. Upgrade your Blue Pure 411’s filter with the ultimate tool against wildfire season. Additional activated carbon removes up to 99.99% of wildfire smoke* along with extra protection against other wildfire emissions such as toxic gasses, smog and odors** Leigh Matthews is a sustainability expert and long time vegan. Her work on solar policy has been published in Canada's National Observer. Capacity: small to medium rooms between 100 sq. ft. and 175 sq. ft. (AHAM rated at 161 sq. ft) / 120 cubic ft/min Clean Air Delivery Rate (CADR) We found that it does have a number of small flaws in terms of response times and fan speeds though, and the performance will vary depending on the room size.

The summer of 2021 was brutal for the Pacific Northwest. In British Columbia, where I live, climate fires raged, and a deadly heat dome killed more than 600 people. I was nine months pregnant as temperatures rose to well over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, and our attention was split between last-minute preparations and watching for wildfires. A budget can also help you to decide on the features you'd like, and whether or not you want a smart air model. All of the air purifiers featured in this guide can be controlled via a display panel or a remote control, but not all have an app.

The Blueair Blue Pure has a 3-stage filtration process that first captures larger particles like dust and pet hair in an external washable pre-filter. The air then moves through a particle filter and activated carbon filter. With arguably better than HEPA technology, this air purifier traps airborne contaminants down to the size of a virus. The Blueair Blue Pure is great for clearing air of: Comparing pollen CADR on high fan speed (Blue Pure 411a Max & 411i Max vs. Blue 411 Auto), other units may vary.
Based on AHAM maximum allowable certified rating which may vary from the AHAM seal claimed valued. Blue Pure 411 cleans your indoor air completely five times per hour, and gives you great value from day one – and throughout your whole ownership. On normal operating speed, Blue Pure 411 uses only 1,5 watts, that's a big win for you and for the environment. In fact, as an Energy Star-Certified air purifier, Blue Pure 411 uses only half the energy of a small LED light! Not much to say here either. The Blue Pure 411 comes with its filter already installed so you just plug it in and, er, that's it. You can press the button on top for a little extra frisson of excitement if you like. It’s like a little robot. Just put on auto and let it do its job. We had a terrible smoke problem due to the people downstairs and now we don’t smell it anymore. It’s nice to see the unit go into gear when the color codes appear. We now have 3 total different Blueair products.

Unless the air purifier has been specifically designed to purify and cool the air – the Dyson Purifier Cool Autoreact, for example – the model will not cool the air.And while it’s true that some of the fans come with filters that enable them to emit purified air, these can be expensive. As such, one of the best air purifiers is an excellent option if air quality is the priority. Although, note that it works via a fan pushing air out of the top of the unit, moving air around the room. During testing, we found that an app can deliver greater insights to the air quality inside the home. There's only so much information that the display panel can show, and if you want to monitor the air quality over a time period, then this is only possible through app support. Very reasonably priced with easy filter subscriptions, but you do have to factor in this ongoing cost. All of the air purifiers featured in this guide have been tested by the editors on TechRadar. They've been reviewed at home (no labs here) in real-life situations, used daily across a minimum of a two-week time frame. During testing, Helen was impressed by the combination of its simplicity and stylish good looks. She also noticed improved air quality and freshness without any intrusive sound or excessive energy consumption. However, keep in mind that if you have very large rooms or open-plan areas then it won’t be up to the task.

In our tests, we found that the air purifiers removed the lingering smells of candles, incense and dry shampoo. We haven’t used the air filter in our kitchen, which is at the other end of the house, so I can’t say how this does for cooking odors. Other reviewers suggest the Blueair works really well though, as long as you move it to the kitchen while cooking. Similarly, it’s hard to tell how effective the Blueair is for VOCs, given that we’re pretty diligent about avoiding these in our home.

I left it on through the night to see if Night mode disturbed our sleep and t gauge how the air in the room felt come the morning. I also measured the sound level on each of the settings through a decibel meter. What else can I tell you about the Blue Pure 411? Changing the filter is a simple matter, which is good since you'll be doing it a couple of times a year at least. The filter is a three-layer affair, with an outer filter to catch larger particles and dust, a fine HEPA filter to remove particles and allergens and a carbon filter to deal with fumes. Aside from the hefty price, our only other (slight) criticism of the Dyson Hot+Cool Formaldehyde is that if you want it to automatically switch on when the unit detects changes in the air, you'll have to remember to put in Auto mode. The noise is also really consistent, with no intermittent whirring or such. As such, I’d imagine most people will easily be able to tune it out even while sleeping. I can’t say how it is while watching television, but it seems unlikely to be disruptive. And even if it does muffle the sound a bit, you can always turn it off, put it on low, or move it farther away temporarily. Filter changes and performance We keep the purifier on the highest setting as it’s an excellent white noise machine. The Blueair not only helps to soothe our baby to sleep, it also drowns out the noise of the wolf that lives next door. That’s right, we have a wolf hybrid neighbor who howls for a large part of the night (and day). Without the air filter, I’m constantly woken up with spiked adrenaline (not awesome in pregnancy). With the air purifier, I sleep right through the howling. This filter is only compatible with the Blue Pure 411 series of air purifiers which include the Blue Pure 411 Auto, Blue Pure 411, and Blue Pure 411+. But, of course, how well the air in a room is purified – or the room temperature adjusted – will depend on the size of the room. For example, the LG PuriCare AeroTower Air Purifying Fan with True HEPA and UVnano LED can purify a room size of up to 818sq ft, whereas the Blueair Blue Pure 411 Auto is suitable for a room size of up to 441sq ft. Opt for an air purifier that isn't suitable for use in your room will mean that it ultimately won't be able to deliver optimum performance. Yes – air purifiers come with carbon filters that remove the Volatile Organic Compounds (VOCs) that cause smells. These could be cooking odors, scented candles or aerosols.
