About this deal

When shooting in FreeFrame mode, there isn't scope to adjust the degree of stabilization – that's managed post-capture – but in standard video mode, you can choose between three levels or turn it off. The GO 3 retains the thumb-shaped design of its predecessors, complete with rounded ends and curved edges, albeit in slightly different dimensions. The Go 3 supports both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity, offering you the convenience of remote control and speedy file transfers to your smartphone or tablet.

The Surface Laptop Studio, for instance, lasts nearly twice as long as the Surface Go 3, and that laptop has a high-performance Tiger Lake H35 processor. There is simply no excuse for battery life this short. Period. Software and features The Insta360 Go 3 offers three storage options: 32GB, 64GB or 128GB, all built-in. Choose carefully, because with no MicroSD card slot there’s no way to expand whatever you start with. A single USB-C port handles charging and data transfers, but aside from that connectivity is wireless: there’s Bluetooth 5.0 and 5GHz Wi-Fi. Video recorded in low light situations can look good, too, but you’ll need to be much more careful how you hold the camera. I found the image stabilisation struggled to maintain smoothness without introducing shimmering artefacts into clips, even when I was indulging in relatively gentle activities. Audio quality is another area where the GO 3 stands out, delivering acceptable sound even from a distance. While it may not match the audio quality of a GoPro, the camera’s stereo and directional microphones make it well-suited for vlogging or outdoor activities. An added wind reduction feature also comes in handy when using the camera for action sports. User ExperienceFor one, both the Go 3 and Action Pod tend to get a little toasty. I thought this might just be during video capture, but even when idle, the gear was warm to the touch. And yeah, I get it: small camera, small battery, lots of data to process. I guess my concern is how much of a power drain an overworked Go 3 and Action Pod could be in the long run. Could this affect processing power? That's hard to say, although I'll admit that my own Go 3 rig was snappy and responsive when starting and stopping a recording. My other concern is overall stabilization. A magnetic design and accessories allow you to mount the GO 3 anywhere, providing you with a multitude of creative possibilities, including but not limited to pets, helmets and fly-on-the-wall shots. The camera lens and a recessed action button are located on the front of the camera. When powered, you can give that button a single tap to start recording video or to snap a photo. A second tap stops the recording, and pressing and holding the button will turn the Go 3 off.

Insta360 GO 3 – The World’s Smallest Action Camera

The Insta360 Go 3 comes in two main parts: the Go 3 camera itself and the Action Pod. The camera looks fairly familiar, being the same tiny Wall-E-esque white ovoid as the original Go and Go 2. It weighs just 35g and fits easily inside a closed palm; we’ve even seen people filming from inside their mouths using it, although we wouldn’t recommend it.

The Go 3 has a built-in 310mAh battery that will get you around 45 minutes of recording time, with an additional two hours of capture supplied by the Action Pod (based on a 1080p/30fps trial w/ Wi-Fi and screen turned off). Based on my experience with the camera, I would say these numbers are pretty accurate, although there were a few instances where off-Pod recording tended to cut off around the 35 to 40-minute mark. That being said, I was shooting at the highest resolution/frame rate during most of my camera tests, because I wanted to see how long the cam could hold its own at max settings. For those familiar with Insta360's previous version of the Go camera, the big difference with the latest model is the introduction of the Action Pod. Part LCD monitor, part settings dashboard, part recharge station, I like that the Go 3 can record on its own without the housing, but if you're low on battery, you can slap the camera on the Action Pod for up to two hours of additional recording. And seeing as the Go 3 only sports a 320mAh battery, the Action Pod is pretty much a must-have for vlogging and any longer excursions. By itself, the Go 3 camera has an IPX8 waterproof rating, which means you can use it for snorkeling or swimming at depths of up to 16 feet (5 meters). The IPX4-rated Action Pod housing is fine to use in the rain but isn't submersible. It measures 1.9 by 2.5 by 1.2 inches and weighs 3.4 ounces. Get up to 11 hours of power, and Fast Charging to take you from low to 80% in less than 1.5 hours when you do need to plug in. Make it your own Insta360 says that software optimizations and a resolution upgrade to 2.7K results in crisp, clear videos. Additionally, there are no clip length limitations and a larger 310mAh battery allows it to shoot continuously for 45 minutes — a 50% increase compared to the previous generation.

The ActionPod and Go 3 are a huge step up from the Go 2, adding loads of functionality and making the whole experience more intuitive Enjoy perfectly smooth footage thanks to the Flowstate stabilisation system which has been integrated into the GO 3. This stabilisation helps to remove any shakes or bumps that might distort the image, perfect when the action gets rough. After testing, phones equipped with Qualcomm SDM765 5G chips have poor hardware decoding capabilities and are not supported for use, such as OPPO Reno 3 5G. For a comprehensive experience with the Go 3, you’ll want to pair it with the Insta360 mobile app, available for iOS and Android. This handy app enables you to view, edit, set keyframes for, and share your captured content with ease. Two of the most important presets here are labeled "Video" and "FreeFrame Video," the latter of which removes all stabilization and in-camera cropping. This preset is best used by those who plan on using the Insta360 app for video editing.

Speaking of which, the Go 3 features a 11.24mm f/2.2 camera (35mm equivalent) and is capable of shooting up to 2.7K video (at 24/25/30 frames per second) and photos in four resolutions including 2,560 x 1,440 (16:9) and 2,936 x 1,088 (2.7:1) as a DNG RAW. The camera can also shoot at 1440p and 1080p at 24/25/30/50 frames per second. Timelapses can be recorded to 1440p, but slow motion 120 frames per second video is restricted to 1080p. Despite its compact size, the Insta360 Go3 offers decent image quality for a camera this size. It can record videos up to 1440p at 50fps (up to 100Mbps bit rate) or 2.7K at 30fps (up to 50Mbps bitrate). The f/2.2 aperture ensures you capture bright and detailed imagery. However, its low-light performance does leave something to be desired. Footage taken in the dark is noisier than other more expensive and bulkier counterparts such as the GoPro, but the camera still manages to deliver decent results prior to sunset lighting condition. Usually when you buy a Windows laptop for this cheap, you’re going to be inundated with a load of useless bloatware that will fill your screen with pop-ups and ads – it’s simply be a headache to deal with, especially if you’re not super familiar with digging around the Windows 11 settings app. The Go 3 now has 45 minutes of run time on its own or 173 minutes of run time when paired with the Action Pod Can the GO 3 record video?New recording modes are also present, including Pre-recording, Loop Recording and Timed Capture. The last feature allows the camera to be set to start recording at a specific time — particularly helpful for early-morning timelapses. A magnetic design and accessories allow you to mount the GO 3 anywhere, providing you with a multitude of creative possibilities. Including but not limited to pets, helmets and fly-on-the-wall shots. The Action Pod and Go 3 are made of plastic, look fun with bulbous styling, and combine very securely, with the Go 3 guided in place by – you guessed it – magnets. The star of the show, however, is the charging case, which Insta360 calls the “Action Pod”. Slot the camera into this and the Insta360 Go 3 turns into a GoPro clone, complete with a 2.2in articulating touchscreen and booster battery.
