About this deal

Thank you for coming. Enzo, can you head to Death’s temple? Tell the guild to send one of their disciples to the Palazzo. I don’t care who it is. I need a read on the body.” Paste: Roz is such an interesting heroine for a story like this – usually, the young girl getting powers doesn’t get radicalized by having them! Talk to me a little bit about how you view her evolution as a character and where her journey is headed. I’m absolutely obsessed! I love the world and Damian and Roz are *chef’s kiss* perfection as main characters. I know I’m going to be begging the NOVL for an ARC of book two… Don’t miss this one!” Paste: I know you probably love both your broken children equally, but whose POV did you enjoy writing more Roz or Damian? Discover what’s lurking in the shadows in this dark fantasy debut with a murder-mystery twist, perfect for fans of Leigh Bardugo and Kerri Maniscalco.

Damian Venturi brought a murderer to justice, but he suspects there was a cost he’s not prepared to pay. As he struggles to act the competent officer again, he’s plagued by inescapable dark thoughts—thoughts that make him wonder if he’s truly in control of himself. Paste: I love the intricate nature of the world-building in this book — from the setup of Ombrazia itself to the history of the saints and the magic of their various disciples—-how much time did you spend plotting all this out? (And how much of it did you have to leave on the cutting room floor?) Once, he might have distracted himself with memories. Would have pictured the face of the girl he loved and used her smile to drive away the fear. Now, though, three years on, he couldn’t imagine Rossana Lacertosa as anything other than furious. A Love Letter to I’m Sorry and a Tribute to Funny Moms in 3 Bits By Annie Berke September 6, 2023 | 11:48am Paste: I’m hoping the ending to this one means we might learn a bit more about the saints and their history in the Seven Faceless Saints sequel? (Warring gods are a weakness of mine!)Vanessa Armstrong Horror Film It Follows to Get a Sequel, Reasonably Titled They Follow 9 hours ago Lobb: I love it, too! At least for me, it’s all about the tension. When two characters have a fraught relationship, I think it’s natural to want to know how they’re eventually going to overcome that. What are they going to learn about one another that changes their opinions? Where are they going to find common ground (or not)? Excitement ensues as Karina and Malik plot each other’s downfall, having no idea their own lives are at risk. This leaves the reader wondering how on earth a resolution will come about—especially given Karina and Malik’s growing connection. Paste: What made you want to write Seven Faceless Saints as a YA story versus an adult fantasy? There are some really dark themes here so I feel like it could have gone either way. In the city of Ombrazia, saints and their disciples rule with a terrifying power, playing favorites while the unfavored struggle to survive.

Forte leveled him with an incensed look. “You’d better not. Report to me tomorrow. If you suspect poison was involved, I take it you know where to start.”

What happens when lovers are separated by war and then unexpectedly reunited in a world of saints, criminals, and just enough danger to leave everyone unsettled? A thrilling mystery that is as full of twists and turns as it is searing romantic tension, SevenFacelessSaintsis a heart-stopping saga about a religious elite teeming with corruption and the rebellion that works to bring them down from within.” A suicide?” Forte echoed the suggestion derisively, hands roving the dead man’s clothes and bedsheets for whatever they could tell him. Disciples of Grace had a connection to such things: It was what made them expert weavers, able to manipulate fabrics into anything from trousers to tapestries without touching a needle and thread. “How convenient that would be for you, Signor Venturi.”

I loved Roz and Damian, and wow have they been through it. Roz is surly and tough as nails, while Damian is trying to find his place in the world and has a lot of heart… Great characters and an exciting plot make me very excited for the second book!” That said, it likely comes as no surprise that my debut novel Seven Faceless Saints contains the perspectives of both main characters as their paths converge after three long years apart. Of course, it’s far from a peaceful reconciliation, but that’s to be expected when one’s former beloved stood by as his father ruined one’s life. Oh, the perils of young love. Roz Lacertosa and Damian Venturi grew up as close friends–turned–young lovers until the war between rebel and national forces tore Damian away from home. Years later, the two are shells of their former selves and in vastly different social circles in Ombrazia. A copy of this book was provided by the publisher – Little, Brown Books for Young Readers – for review.

Seven Faceless Saints combines the best aspects of true crime, high fantasy, and YA dystopian novels into one fast-paced story worth re-reading. The worldbuilding climbs throughout the novel as the reader follows Roz, Damian, and the variety of secondary characters they interact with. The split-perspective POV adds layers of depth to each of the characters without complicating the narrative. The Overlooked Cobweb Is a Well-Crafted, Future Halloween Cult Classic By Jim Vorel October 28, 2023 | 12:15am You were at the Mercato.” Forte’s voice was bland as he echoed Damian’s statement. “Did you not make your rounds of the temples yesterday?” We got the chance to chat with the author herself about the world of Ombrazia, Damian and Roz’s tempestuous relationship, and what we can expect from the sequel. If there’s one thing I look for in YA fantasy, it’s a side of romantic tension. More specifically, the fraught, complicated kind. Whether the characters are rivals, mortal enemies, or simply two young people who can’t seem to get along, you can inject it into my veins. When building this kind of dynamic, I absolutely love dual-POV (point of view). As a reader, there’s something about knowing both of the main characters better than they know each other. You’re constantly on the edge of your seat, waiting for secrets to come to light or repressed feelings to burst forth. Only then can you let out the breath you didn’t know you were holding.
