About this deal

I should mention that I spent the first 30% of this book thinking booktok had bamboozled me AGAIN, because it was just kind of meh for me, but once shit ( finally) hit the fan I was H O O K E D. & then I figured out where Adelaide/Harper was going with this, and I had that moment. Now, my biggest issue with this book is the time they spent running away. At first I was fine with it because I was waiting for what the next chapter will lead up to but then it took more time and I was waiting for a change of scenario. It was just the two of them most of the time and their dialogue.

You're a vicious one, aren't you?" he asked, running his tongue over the top of his perfect bottom teeth. You know the one I’m talking about? That moment where you already know what the major plot twist is gonna be, but you still end up blown away because you weren’t expecting the plot twist to be revealed the way that it was? Yes? Well, I had guessed early on how this was going to play out but my heart still pooped it’s pants when the big reveal came and I was shooook 😱🤯

I’m not wearing any trousers.” “And that is the problem. I like my intestines in my stomach and not shoved into my lungs.” The world building is incredibly weak and there's little clarity. The spice is written with heart, the romance is written with heart, but the rest comes across as bland. I did, letting them drift closed. Ringing filled my ears, drowning out my mother’s hoarse cries and the sound of Brann trying to console her. My body filled with warmth, like the press of a warm hearth on a cold winter’s night, the stars shimmering outside the window as I cuddled up with a book. Caelum: “Do friends get jealous of past lovers? Because I cannot promise I wouldn’t disembowel any man who has been inside you.”

Re-read #1: URGH, I still love this so much! I re-read it to get ready to get into the next book and I adored every moment. The suspense, the intrigue, oh my! I loved how the heroine rationalized away all the "coincidences" about the hero and any indication of something being slightly off about him. Like you go girl! The hero's sexual innuendos are gold and I love that even through it all he's SO emotionally available that it's disarming. Though on my second read though I did come across someone saying that another person had "eerie mismatched eyes" as a negative trait. In this house, we don't shame people for things they can't help. Heterochromia is a genetic mutation and it's not indicative of someone being good or bad. It just is. It's pretty cool if you ask me *shrugs* Trigger Warning (18+): abuse, grooming, molestation (mentioned), violence, death of character (side) I touched my fingertips to one of the scars in the center of his spine, feeling his body still at my touch. “Who did this to you?” I asked, my voice sounding softer and more broken than I’d ever heard it.”Good work Roy, you are spot on! Each of us DOES plan out our lives, this is why every time you come up against a challenge in life, and you don't know how you will make it, somehow you always do. Because YOU planned it! Yes, reincarnation is true, so it is not life after death, rather, life after life. Indeed all those who have died a physical death are just fine in the spiritual realm just as Roy states. Personally, I am kind of blown away because this Roy man, well he is further ahead that almost every other person living on this planet. I am very happy to know a kindred soul of spiritual consciousness is here and working to share in this grand unveiling. of 5 stars 2 of 5 stars 3 of 5 stars 4 of 5 stars 5 of 5 stars What Lies Beyond the Veil by Harper L. Woods Roy Smith, founder of Spirit Quest and author of this blog, is from Pennsylvania originally but has lived in Panama since 1990. He is devoted to his personal quest for spiritual wisdom and the global spiritual awakening. From the coauthor of the New York Times bestselling Illuminae Files comes the first book in a new series that's part Romeo and Juliet, part Terminator, and all adrenaline.

THE SETUP AND initial chapters were so good! I felt really invested in this world and wanted to see Estrella break free from her unfortunate situation. And then things got even more interesting once the Veil shattered and she would up on the run... up until we meet Caelum. I don't think I've ever been less excited about a MMC. The main issue is that other aspects of the book were not as solidly structured as they should have been to make a great story, which made it hard to get invested in the characters or the plot. Besides that, the extraneous, repetitive things that drag on and on for about 60% of the whole book caused me to skim through it. More so, "THE SEXUAL EXHIBITIONS AND THE PUBLIC SHOWING OFF" caught me totally off guard; I wasn't expecting to find these scenes. Frankly I'm never a fan of this kind of sexual stuff, so it was a downright unpleasant read for me.Only when it comes to pushy men who seem to think they have the right to touch me," I snapped, leaning further into the knife against his throat." Enter our potential love interest, Caelum. As much as I wanted to like "What Lies Beyond the Veil" by Harper L. Woods, I have to give it a 2-star review. While the book's concept was intriguing, the world's layout and magical system were fantastic. But, in my opinion, the execution fell short. If you’ve read the From Blood and Ash series by Jennifer Armentrout you’ve basically already read this book. Isolde de Lara considers her wedding day her death day. To end a years-long war, she is to marry vampire king, Adrian Aleksandr Vasiliev, and kill him. You and the basilisk in your trousers stay right there, thank you very much,” I said, snapping to attention the moment he came closer.
