I should mention that I spent the first 30% of this book thinking booktok had bamboozled me AGAIN, because it was just kind of meh for me, but once shit ( finally) hit the fan I was H O O K E D. & then I figured out where Adelaide/Harper was going with this, and I had that moment. Now, my biggest issue with this book is the time they spent running away. At first I was fine with it because I was waiting for what the next chapter will lead up to but then it took more time and I was waiting for a change of scenario. It was just the two of them most of the time and their dialogue.

I loved how the heroine rationalized away all the "coincidences" about the hero and any indication of something being slightly off about him. Like you go girl! The hero's sexual innuendos are gold and I love that even through it all he's SO emotionally available that it's disarming. Though on my second read though I did come across someone saying that another person had "eerie mismatched eyes" as a negative trait. In this house, we don't shame people for things they can't help. Heterochromia is a genetic mutation and it's not indicative of someone being good or bad. It just is. THE SETUP AND initial chapters were so good! I felt really invested in this world and wanted to see Estrella break free from her unfortunate situation. And then things got even more interesting once the Veil shattered and she would up on the run... up until we meet Caelum. I don't think I've ever been less excited about a MMC. The main issue is that other aspects of the book were not as solidly structured as they should have been to make a great story, which made it hard to get invested in the characters or the plot. Besides that, the extraneous, repetitive things that drag on and on for about 60% of the whole book caused me to skim through it. More so, "THE SEXUAL EXHIBITIONS AND THE PUBLIC SHOWING OFF" caught me totally off guard; I wasn't expecting to find these scenes.
