About this deal

OK, I am positive that if my uncle did not gift me this novel through the post, I would have surely not read it. Any book about James Bond as a child would not have placed an interesting thought in my mind. During a scene at a circus the announcer presents "The Mighty Donovan". "The Mighty O'Donovan" is Donovan "Red" Grant's father, referenced in From Russia, with Love.

Lord Hellebore arrives at Eton to fund and stage a three-part athletic tournament, which he intends his son, George, to win. The competition has three heats: swimming, running, and shooting. Lord Hellebore helps George cheat in various events, particularly the foot race, where he plans shortcuts for his son. James, noticing that George has an alternate route, follows him, using his speed to overtake him and win the race. George tries to trip James but fails. Ultimately, Andrew Carlton, another student is the winner of the tournament, which deeply disappoints Lord Hellebore. Because Fleming never explicitly said when James Bond was born, Ian Fleming Publications and Charlie Higson chose the year 1920 as his birth year. SilverFin takes place in 1933. o APA citation: Higgson, H. & Walker, K. (2008). Silverfin: A James Bond adventure. New York, NY: Hyperion Books. In 2004, it was announced that Higson would pen a series of James Bond novels, aimed at younger readers and concentrating on the character's school-days at Eton. Higson was himself educated at Sevenoaks School where he was a contemporary of Jonathan Evans, current Director General of MI5. The first novel, SilverFin, was released on 3 March 2005 in the UK and on 27 April 2005 in the U.S. A second novel, Blood Fever, was released on 5 January 2006 in the UK and 1 June in the U.S. The third novel, Double or Die, was published on 4 January 2007 having had its title announced the day before. The next, Hurricane Gold, came out in hardcover in the UK in September 2007.[3:]In this year he also made a debut performance on the panel show QI. His final Young Bond novel, By Royal Command, was released in hardcover in the UK on the 3 September 2008.[4:] Fleming: "The scent and smoke and sweat of a casino are nauseating at three in the morning" Higson: "The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning."

As I said earlier this book gets into the mystery too late but you still don't want to put it down, you want to keep reading even though it is not that exiting initially. Some kids will enjoy Alex Rider more but overall it is a good book with lovable characters. I liked this book and I hope you will too. Silverfin, a Level 1 Reader, is A1 in the CEFR framework. Short sentences contain a maximum of two clauses, introducing the past simple tense and some simple modals, adverbs and gerunds. Illustrations support the text throughout, and many titles at this level are graphic novels. Higson: "The smell and noise and confusion of a hallway full of schoolboys can be quite awful at twenty past seven in the morning." One thing about this category, is that it's interesting to view the perspective of the illustrator, how they saw the image of the book in their mind, although I can't mark them down if the tree I imagined had brown leaves instead of dark green leaves, as I have not read the actual book.

Book Summary

My favorite quote from this book is the final quote as it teaches you a moral, the quote and moral is "Don't ever be a spy" The reason I admire this quote is because at around the middle of the novel, Bond's uncle was explaining how he was beaten and tortured by German Soldiers then said. "Don't ever be a spy". So once James Bond had experienced his bit of being a spy he agreed with his uncle and it wrapped up the novel nicely. That said Higson did write some excellent books and his last one actually featured james Bond 007 in a albeit short chapter.
