About this deal

Using the Golden Torch, Jayben is the only hope of getting their beloved memories back, and if he succeeds, he will have the chance to change the Memorywood forever. Can he discover his place in the fantasy world and save them all from evil agents by discovering his own powers and his memory before it is too late? Jayben shows the confusion, fear and frustration that I feel after a seizure, but in doing so, he shows how amazing he can be when he does have control. Today I’m 39 and inside that drawer is a shiny novel with my name on it, the first of a new series about a boy who wakes up with no memories, in another world. This is not a Harry Potter story, but it will appeal to some fantasy devotees, aged 10+, if they can cope with the occasional confusions or absences due to memory loss.

The importance of characters with epilepsy and - BookTrust

I hope that children living with brain injuries and epilepsy will feel encouraged by Jayben, the hero I've longed to see for many years. So often seizures in fiction are depicted as the end or a sign of someone worsening, we so rarely get to see people living with seizures and living through them. He will have to find out what he needs to do quickly because the residents have been waiting for him … a brutal force by the name of Null is wiping everyone’s memories to gain ultimate power. You can feel Jayben's worry about the loss of control and his concerns that he may have one that puts him in danger. years-later, creating an 80s playlist for his upcoming 30th, Thomas heard the first line of the Waterboys' The Whole of the Moon and his childhood memories began to emerge.A song I had somehow not heard in all that time, The Whole of the Moon by the Waterboys, began to play, and I was transported. It’s a magical tale of courage, hope and friendship, honing in on the idea that whatever pages are missing in your story, you can be the hero on the next page. Many strange things are happening and there seems to be an urgent need for Jayben to rediscover some memory. In a flash I was in another curious place; I saw some coloured glass lights on an enormous Christmas tree that towered over me. This can certainly be recommended to readers of fantasy, and it seems that a second book involving Jayben may be coming in the future.

A moment that changed me: I lost my memories in a road

Jayben's seizures and memory loss added a different dynamic to the story which was a welcome change from all the action at times - it was about halfway through the book when he started experiencing absences that I became more invested in the character and the story. Without knowing where his beginning was, he began adjusting to a future that included navigating the severe epilepsy that resulted from his brain injury. Books that acknowledge or explore mental health issues can help to increase awareness, encourage dialogue, reduce stigma and develop real understanding. Inspired by the author’s uniquely personal experience of memory loss comes an incredible, immersive fantasy series about a boy with no memories and a world that only he can save. There was so much to learn and with every answer came more questions; soon, the questions became bigger and tougher. As I learned to live with memory loss and epilepsy caused by my brain injury, I rediscovered the magic of reading and I fell in love with stories set in fantasy worlds, where the heroes were confronted with the unknown.
