About this deal

Apparently Nikon have no parts anymore for the VR1 which I find incredibly sad and amazingly disappointing. For example, choosing anything but the center focus point will often result in focus hunting and you might need to manually pre-focus the lens before trying to acquire focus on your subject.

As you can see, the lens starts out very sharp at maximum aperture at the shortest focal lengths and its performance diminishes towards 200mm, particularly in the corners. I wish that Nikon had included a VR switch on the side of the lens, but it seems they aren’t doing that with the Z lenses. Nikon also added the new Nano Crystal Coat to this lens, which is supposed to minimize ghosting and lens flare. Nikon's latest Z-mount lens is a 600mm you can handhold for hours for wildlife and sports photography or pack away for travel when you want to leave the monopod and tripod at home. The VRII version is significantly sharper in the corners, less vignetting and has more contrast, but has much greater focus breathing than the old one.The latest generation of the 70-200mm lens is no exception – Nikon completely redesigned the lens, adding more “ED” (Extra-Low Dispersion) optical elements, making this lens sharper than the previous version. Much is still dependent on the lens hood and the photographer’s skills, but this lens gives you all that modern technology has to offer in terms of minimizing flare. The Nikon TC-20E III is a major update to the existing Nikon TC-20E II teleconverter, sporting a brand new optical design with an aspherical element, which delivers better performance with many specialty telephoto lenses. No matter what the right answer is, the lens is built very solid in most metal and some rubber (focus ring and zoom). It’s an equally accomplished performer on both DX and FX that will satisfy the most demanding of photographers.

The tripod collar and foot are both metal, and they get colder than the rest of the lens in low temperature environments. The lens accepts filters via a standard 77mm thread around the – non-rotating – front lens element, which is great news for those who like to use polarisers or ND grads.

is equipped with Nikon’s Vibration Reduction II system that allows for up to 4-stops of compensation. Nano Crystal Coat not only solves ghost effects caused by red light, which was incredibly difficult for previous systems.

Tried turning camera and AF/VR switches on and off and got a couple minutes before it died completely. ED VR which first appeared in 2003, and brings to the table an entirely remastered optical system designed to match the demands of the latest high resolution FX format cameras such as the D3X, accompanied by an improved vibration reduction system which Nikon claims offers up to four stops stabilization. All in all, you get the impression from handling this lens that it is built for professional use and designed to withstand a lot of beating from daily use in all kinds of weather. Not only will it take some time to get used to, but you also need to know how to get the best out of your autofocus system on the camera.Fluorite (FL), a lightweight mono-crystal optical material, has excellent optical properties while reducing overall lens weight to improve balance and handling, especially useful in longer focal length lenses. A slight oddity is that this lens doesn’t have a VR switch on the side, so enabling VR must be done via an in-camera menu (the i menu being the quickest way). The new Nikon 70-200mm f/4G VR also comes with a brand new, third generation Vibration Reduction (VR) technology, which Nikon claims can provide up to 5 stops of image stabilization.

The build quality is appropriate for a professional workhorse lens, with a barrel that's made from magnesium alloy like the bodies of Nikon's pro-level DSLRs, and extensive sealing against dust and moisture. Nikon sold very few of these because it cost four times as much, and weighed over twice as much, as the 80-200mm f/4 AI-s. Comes with a very nice semi-soft lens-case that is well padded, the lens-shade is included, reversible for transport, and has an interlock to prevent accidental loss, and the lens-caps are standard Nikon’s.The focus ring is located close to the zoom ring, making it easy to reach it with fingers for manual focus, without having to move the hand to the front of the lens barrel. So if you are looking for a versatile setup capable of reaching up to 400mm of focal length, the 70-200mm f/2. Unlike smartphones, the OM System TG-7 is designed to take a licking and keep on ticking, whether on land or underwater. Nikon have been regularly updating their lens range and the latest zoom to get the makeover treatment is the Nikon AF-S 70-200mm f/2.
