The last time the painting traveled from the the premise of the Kenwood premise, was to the London National Gallery from July, 2012 to September 8, 2013 ( Vermeer and Music: Love and Leisure in the Dutch Golden Age in London 2013. The first stage in the restoration process was the removal of multiple layers of varnish which had turned yellowish brown as a result of ageing. Along with nine other paintings by Vermeer and 40–50 works of Dutch genre painting from the second half of the 17th century it will enrich the exhibition. It has not yet been possible to identify the originator of this overpainting that completely covered the background picture, including its broad black frame, nor to determine at what point in time it was performed. The book playfully invites both children and adults to look for similarities and differences between Bruna’s and Vermeer’s art.

Zapadnoevropeiskaia i Amerikanskaia zhivopis is muzeev ssha (West European and American Painting from the Museums of USA). In preparation for the exhibition “The Early Vermeer” in 2010, the painting underwent careful microscopic investigation, particularly with regard to the artist’s painting technique and the state of preservation.
