About this deal
Iron War] is a truly great read--and an ode to our sport with all its quirky characters and epic venues. I didn't know anything about these guys, or the Iron man, but after reading this book, I want to some day compete in one. He remained behind him for much of the 112-mile ride, despite Scott putting in several efforts to get away. Mark Allen claims the author made a lot of false claims about him and Scott, but if I'm being honest, I speculate that the claims are true, but claims that Mark didn't necessarily want to reveal due to the deep personal nature of them. Scott was in fact dominant in the annual Iron Man championships held in Hawaii from 1980 to 1988 winning six out of ten races and finishing second in one of the two 1982 editions, often finishing 20 minutes ahead of his nearest competitor.
Iron War is perhaps, the most simple map in the game, as it only features three islands, two medium sized islands, Wayward Isle at the north-west, Sentinel Isle at the south, one small, unnamed island, and a few asteroids scattered around the map. One of Dave’s favorite swim workouts was a set of seven 500-yard intervals with a short rest period after each. The telling of this story gives insight into the race far beyond what we could see on the ABC special. It was inspiring to read but, unlike after reading Born to Run, I don't feel the need to take up triathlons after finishing this book.
I read it in just over a day and have passed it around friends who have all agreed it is a brilliant read.Matt Fitzgerald is an award-winning endurance sports journalist and bestselling author of more than 20 books on running, triathlon, fitness, nutrition, and weight loss, including Brain Training for Runners and Racing Weight.
