About this deal

While there’s plenty of types of Asian Inspired spicy noodles, this particular recipe doesn’t fit into one category. There’s dan dan noodles, gochujang korean noodles, but this is a cross between sesame noodles, peanut noodles and spicy chili noodles. Creamy (Smooth) Peanut Butter: To add creamy and nutty flavors! Alternatively, use an Asian white sesame paste (like the one used for Spicy Dan Dan Noodles) or another nut butter. I highly recommend using a commercial peanut butter with added sugar and salt over a natural one. It will result in a more creamy and cohesive soup that isn’t grainy. This Honey Sriracha Sauce is truly is one of my favorites. It’s based off my Mongolian Beef but instead of Asian Sweet Chili Sauce, I have combined honey and Sriracha for sweet heat along with soy sauce, ginger, garlic, and splashes of hoisin (like Asian barbecue sauce) and mirin (Japanese sweet cooking rice wine). Adjust spice level to taste. Use less of the (or omit) fresh red chilies and omit the chili oil for both cooking the soup and topping to make it milder. You can also use just 1 tablespoon of gochujang for the broth. An alternative to Sambal Oelek would be Asian Chili Garlic Sauce. I find the Asian Chili Sauce not quite as potent, so you would want to use a bit more for the same heat equivalent. I can’t really recommend an alternative beyond that, as I can’t think of another sauce that would yield the same flavour profile.

Add the hot sauce and taste the soup. Add additional hot sauce, salt, and pepper, if desired, to make it taste exactly how you love it! Sprinkle with fresh cilantro, if desired. Expert TipsWhile I grew up on a diet of delicious Southern food, it wasn't until my mid-20's that I had Chinese and Thai food for the first time. Once the garlic turns golden brown, add in the sauce. Give it a good stir for 2 more minutes.Taste and add more salt to taste.

So, when challenged to cook with something I had never tried before as part of this month’s Recipe Redux, I decided it was time to make an Asian Noodle Bowl. Gochujang. Gochujang is a fermented Korean chili pepper paste that’s spicy-sweet and smoky flavored. It comes in small tubs and can be found in the Asian aisle most mainstream supermarkets and in Asian and Korean supermarkets.Don’t let the broth boil rapidly. It will cause the milk to split. You only need it to be hot and barely simmering to cook the meatballs. Korean Sake: This is a Korean cooking wine that’s used to tenderize and bring out the flavor in meats. You could use a Japanese sake instead too, or omit it if you rather not cook with alcohol.
