Healing the Soul of a woman gives us a look into how God loves us unconditionally and how He wants healing for us. I was talking to my best friend regarding a negative review of this book because she wanted gory details. I subconsciously seemed to replace terms to fit my own beliefs but all in all, l found the title misleading. It just could've been a lot better with a little more consideration for people who are not 100% on board with the extremes of her interpretations of Christianity. Our souls are wounded from the terrible things that others do to us, but often we are also wounded from our own sin.

It's too preachy of God for my taste when so many women follow various beliefs and are allowed that. She offers practical advice on areas such as: guilt and shame, self-pity, the healthy soul, standing up for yourself, and establishing boundaries. Running on empty for years and now that I’ve exhausted each wrestling move I’m going to turn and face ME. In Healing the Soul of a Woman, she shares her story, the story of others who have faced challenges, and Scripture to help the reader grow in their own healing from God.Can a woman who has been deeply hurt by life’s circumstances, or even a man she loved and trusted, be healed? Knowing what I do about Joyce's childhood abuse I wondered if I could relate to her experiences, but she demonstrates that even woman who haven't been abused to such extents can be wounded by what they have witnessed, what people have said about them and what they choose to believe about themselves.

Meyer’s positivity comes from living her own journey, and from seeing so many women who don’t believe they can fully overcome their pain-or even know where to begin-find the guidance they need in the life-changing wisdom of the Bible. I have to give it one star less though as it sometimes felt a little lacking in compassion, and at other times it wasn't very practical in terms of the actual healing process (although obviously it looks different to different people).Even though I have been a Christian for many years, I have at times struggled to see how I am God's Beloved. I would recommend this book to anyone, Christian or not, who like me, like Joyce, and like so many others have been through tough times and unfortunately carry the scars deep down in their souls.This book revealed questions that I need to ask my self and humility to go before the Lord to release my burdens. By reading this I have realized I have been dealing with a lot of broken wounds that I keep running away from. I am a Christian but I stepped away from the church several years ago because I was hurt by church members and a pastor at the time. I hate that that is the stereotype (and really, let's face it, the standard) of the godly Christian woman. A book like this has to have been written by someone who 'has been there and got the t-shirt' so to speak and therefore Joyce is unfortunately ideally qualified!
