Retro Headphones That Don’t Suck - lonelybrand Retro Headphones That Don’t Suck - lonelybrand

Sound quality is reasonable. About on par with the HTX-7s they're replacing, give or take. Not special, not going to blow you away with volume or clarity, but they work great for daily drivers. Dynamic range sounds good. Audio quality over Bluetooth is solid and I have rarely experienced interruption or judder. Connection over Bluetooth is swift. Unrivaled in comfort, these headphones were a clear winner in our book. We loved that headband had a medium amount of firmness, and the cushioning is comprised of a couple of inches of leatherette-topped foam to ensure the headphones remain securely on your head.A true high fidelity product, intended for the high end audiophile market, these M&D 65s stand out in another way as well – they are, unlike any other choice on the list, neutral almost to a fault.

Even the wonderful Sennheiser ‘phones, just above, as beloved as they are among audiophiles, have a somewhat boosted bass and a slightly popular sound, but this is not the way for the Masters! That's exactly where the Panasonic RP-HTX80B fits in. These over-ear cans don't have all the current top-end features - there's no noise-cancelling or aptX, for example - but what they do deliver is totally wireless performance at an attractive price.Gaming in these is really immersive, no matter if you are playing an F1 Racing game or Battlefield. This is definitely a listener headphone: meaning, for chilling and enjoying a piece of music instead of using it as a production headphone for mixing/mastering or recording music, even though it is very flat, well balanced, neutral sounding and everything, but it doesn’t quite have a punch (compared to an ATH-M50 a monitor headphone by Audio-Technica). As I slide on the soft leather ear cups and lose myself in the music, I’m transported to another time and place. The rich and detailed sound caresses my eardrums, delivering well-defined bass, midrange, and treble frequencies that leave me breathless. The passive noise isolation wraps me in a cocoon of sound, shielding me from the distractions of the world outside. As should also be expected of a sealed design, the Panasonic RP-HTX7 had pretty decent noise isolation overall and were better than average in this regard. While they didn’t completely seal out ambient sounds, what did come through was fairly benign in nature. Perhaps more importantly for some users, the Panasonics did good job of keeping the music from leaking out of them, even as we went Insane in the Brain with some old school Cypress Hill turned up to 11.
