They say it has a beautiful smell, it's not overpowering like some perfumes, and it lingers for a very long time.

I did have a "I have smelt this before" moment and I would say it does smell vintage, old school and stylish, but definitely NOT old lady.This might be a function of the aldehydes, but I’m betting it’s from the vanilla-sandalwood combination; it’s a slightly-musty sort of smell that I associate with scented talc powder and my great-aunt Leacy. I have Chanel no 5, and yes it is a bit similar at first application, but it has it's own distinctive charm (one of which being much more affordable! The L'Aimant eventually got more spicy and woodsy as well, with the cedar and sandalwood notes blending with the florals. I was curious to try this after reading so many other reviews that liken L'aimant to Chanel's no 5 and having worn Chanel for a number of years I can see why. This one opens brighter and fresher and the aldehydes feel a lot more airy here than they do in No 5, where they're so dense in the opening that it gives the fragrance an almost oily feel.
