Description

It’s a great mat, ideal for summer use or, as I intend to use it, doubled up with another mat in colder weather. For a full length insulated sleeping mat the Static V Lite is a very comfortable, lightweight and compact option. Pack Size: Exceptionally compact, the 3”x8” pack size is tiny compared to closed-cell foam or self-inflating pads with the same footprint, R-Value and thickness.

I will say that I used this sleeping pad in the lower 40s (F) without any insulation between the floor and my pad or my pad and my sleeping bag. The V-shape cradles your body, so you don’t slip off your pad or twist your sleeping bag around in the middle of the night. It was easy to deflate and roll up, and the included stuff sack is large enough that if you don’t roll it perfectly it will still fit. In both instances, I usually carry a 45-65 liter hiking backpack, depending on how long I’m out there. It fills up with around 14 solid breaths, and packs down to about the size of a water bottle with little effort. It wasn't unbearable, and we did get some sleep, though we were forced to use our Wim Hof breathing techniques to heat up and keep from shivering. I was just a bit chilled in my 20-degree down sleeping bag, most of the chill coming from underneath through the Klymit Static V pad. To learn more about sleeping pads, including the difference between self-inflating pads and air pads, you can check out our comprehensive guide.

The underside utilizes a thick 75D material, whereas the less exposed topside has a lighter-weight 30D polyester. The clever design of the Static V2 incorporates a subtle trough down the middle that helps contain your body as you toss and turn in the middle of the night. If you've ever had a self-inflating pad spring a leak or mysteriously deflate in the middle of the night, you know what I mean. Adding more comfort without sacrificing its light weight, Klymit has amped up the original Static V formula in the Static V Luxe Sleeping Pad.

There is no insulation inside, so for cooler trips this may be a bit cold for some, but for most summer trips it should be fine. The Double is a couple’s pad, and the Junior is for children or ultralighter’s that want a torso pad.

Air pad technology has caught up, and I find this pad from Klymit to outperform comparable self-inflating pads. It took me much less time and energy to blow up the Static V2 than my old pad, so I give it a 5 out of 5 for inflation. Trailspace's community of gear reviewers has field-tested and rated the top air-filled sleeping pads. Even our boniest gear testers felt comfortable side sleeping, though some occasional ground contact was noted. And if you do roll a bit too far, Klymit equipped this pad with Dynamic Side Rails to help guide you back for a center alignment. At 18oz folding down to 16oz bottle size this pad is an excellent choice for the backpacker or climber trying to pack as little weight as possible. If you plan on camping in cold weather and need a comfortable and reliable sleeping pad, we think you should check out the Therm-a-Rest NeoAir XLite NXT. I think if you are a side, back, or stomach sleeper, this sleeping pad will be a good fit due to the Body Mapping Technology that I mentioned earlier, which implies support and stability. The pad is shaped in a way that reduces rolling off, I stayed on without having to be constantly aware of how I laid, unlike other pads I have used.
