Description

If you are a Xiaomi fan, loving the general approach to software, the Redmi Note 10S will be a good phone. Should you simply be looking for a budget device, it will likely provide everything you could want. For an utmost immersive viewing experience we have a 16.33cm (6.43) Super AMOLED Display with a peak brightness of 1100nits. The display also comes with Corning® Gorilla® Glass protection and SGS Certification for Low Blue Light. A 100% DCI-P3 that helps with a rich viewing experience. Here things tend towards the latter end of the spectrum. There’s a mess of doubled-up apps, strange restrictions and tight RAM management that can make some apps malfunction. The design language of the Redmi Note 10S is that of its wider product line, which is to say that it has a prominent camera island, an all-plastic design, a tall aspect ratio and a notch to house the selfie camera – in short it is a modern smartphone.

The device is fitted with a Side-mounted fingerprint sensor with double tap gestures for easy access. Thanks to a 2-MP depth sensor, the 64-MP main camera of the Redmi Note 10S can produce very detailed close-up shots. The colours look very natural. However, faraway objects often turn out blurry. Some parts of the Redmi Note 10S, such as the camera and the display, were clearly sacrifices to help Xiaomi hit a certain price point. This general perception fortunately doesn’t carry over into general performance. Rear Camera: 2160p (at 30fps), 1080p (at 60fps/30fps)| Front Camera: 1080p (at 30fps), 720p (at 30fps) It is intended to be slightly less premium than the likes of Xiaomi’s Note 10 Pro, but retaining some signature flashes of the product family, such as an AMOLED display. Supporting WideVine L1, the device can stream YouTube and Netflix in HDR using supported content, and the display generally gets bright enough to combat the sun.

The 8-MP ultra wide-angle camera produces sharp photographs with punchy colours. Howbeit, the pictures taken with the ultra wide-angle camera look a little grainy. In low-light conditions, the ultra wide-angle shooter fails to capture any detail. There is no optical zoom. Pictures shot using digital zoom appear very blurry. The additional 2-MP macro camera performs worse than the main camera when it comes to macro photography.
In Pro mode, users can adjust the shutter speed, brightness, ISO and the white balance for each camera. There is no Pro video mode. Videos taken with the Xiaomi smartphone look about as good as the photographs. Video can be recorded at 1080p and 720p at 60 or 30 FPS. The Redmi Note 10S can only record 4K video at 30 FPS. In addition to its 108MP main camera, the Redmi Note 10 Pro features an 8MP ultra-wide lens for action-cam-a-like shots, and a 5MP macro camera, which, thanks to autofocus, isn’t a massive waste of space. There’s also a depth sensor for good measure. The question of software is a little less positive than that of the performance itself. Xiaomi has long utilised its own spin on the general Android interface, called MIUI. At its best, it adds some useful features, at its worst it duplicates features and adds advertisements. A phone is more than a list of specifications, however, and the competition is particularly fierce in the budget space. At its price, you’re kidding yourself if you’re expecting the Redmi Note 10 Pro to be a fancy glass and metal mix. Instead, it’s one of the best plastic phones we’ve tested. This is borne out by the Geekbench 6 scores, where the Note 10S achieves 673 on single-core and 1808 on multi-core. With such a standout screen and stereo speakers, The Redmi Note 10 Pro is a streamer’s dream. Its 20:9 aspect ratio makes it a perfect fit for new cinematic widescreen movies and shows like Mandalorian, and the quality is beyond reproach for the price. Anyone who needs an Android phone to tide them over between pricey flagships, the Redmi Note 10 Pro is also perfect for you. Design In a sea of glass rectangles, this particular rectangle won’t do anything to turn heads, though that isn’t necessarily a bad thing. On occasion certain brands can try a little too hard to stand out, to mixed results – no such result here.

There are, however, options from the competition that have better displays, faster performance, better cameras, faster charging and more – and that have a far less cluttered software experience. Optional extras that, practically speaking, are useless to many right now (we’re looking at you 5G) are missing from Xiaomi’s latest Redmi phone. Instead, it’s got a best-in-class screen and camera, excellent battery life with fast charging, not to mention standout design for the price. This is flanked by an 8MP ultrawide, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor – completing the arrangement on the front the selfie snapper has a resolution of 13MP. If you are in the market for a cameraphone, the Redmi Note 10S should not be your first choice. PerformanceOf course, this being Xiaomi, the Note 10S has an attractive list of specifications to differentiate itself from much of the competition. With a 5,000mAh battery, an octa-core processor, 6GB of RAM, 64GB of storage and a 64MP main camera it matches and exceeds most others at the price point. Comes with Z-axis haptic motor, which gives 150 different vibration types for different notifications. The best camera in the world can’t detract from the Redmi Note 10 Pro’s adverts. Yep. Ads for third-party apps pop up when you install a new app. They’re pretty gross, but you can turn them off. Nevertheless, to get away with such an eye-sore, the Note 10 Pro would have to be the best phone money can buy at its price, which, as you’ve probably gathered by now, it is. So, should I buy it? It is no surprise then that it proves to be something of a battery champ. On a typical day, waking at 7am with a 45-minute commute, messaging, using the internet and streaming music, I could generally finish by 10pm with around 45% left in the tank. This is a very strong showing overall, meaning that those with lighter usage could easily see the device reach a second day. Though it doesn’t sport all of the latest marketing taglines, the display on the Note 10S is good enough for most purposes, being sharp, colourful and vibrant, though it remains a relative low point when considering the competition.
